The Head of Academics will be responsible for managing the overall operation of the academic program tailored to student athletes. This includes balancing both academic excellence and athletic development, ensuring that students succeed academically while thriving in their athletic pursuits.1. Leadership and Administration:Lead and oversee the daily operations of the school/academic program.Develop and implement the program’s mission, vision, and strategic goals, integrating both academics and athletics.Create and maintain a positive and supportive environment that encourages both academic achievement and athletic excellence.Establish policies and procedures that align with district, state, and athletic association regulations.Supervise and evaluate academic staff, coaches, and support personnel.2. Academic and Athletic Oversight:Ensure that the program's academic offerings meet or exceed state standards while also supporting athletes’ specific needs.Collaborate with coaches to integrate athletic schedules and practices with the academic calendar to ensure students’ academic success.Develop and monitor tailored learning plans for student athletes, taking into account their time commitments to sports.Monitor academic progress and athletic performance, addressing issues and creating strategies for continuous improvement.Facilitate professional development for academic staff and coaches to improve both teaching and coaching practices.3. Staff Management:Hire, train, and evaluate academic staff, coaches, and support staff, ensuring that they have the expertise to support the needs of student athletes.Provide coaching and mentorship to teachers and coaches to improve instruction and athletic training.Foster a collaborative, supportive, and team-oriented work environment for all staff.4. Budget and Resource Management:Manage the budget for both academic and athletic programs, ensuring appropriate resource allocation for both domains.Oversee the procurement and management of materials, equipment, and facilities for both academics and athletics.Seek out funding, grants, or sponsorships to enhance both academic programs and athletic initiatives.5. Student Athlete Support:Oversee student athlete discipline and ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.Promote wellness programs that address both academic and athletic needs, including physical, mental, and emotional health.Ensure that student athletes are balancing their academic work with athletic commitments and receive the necessary support for success.Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and the broader community to address academic, athletic, or personal concerns.Implement programs that support the academic, athletic, and personal development of student athletes.6. Community and Athletic Program Engagement:Build strong relationships with parents, athletes, athletic organizations, and the local community.Represent the school/academic program at athletic events, conferences, and community meetings.Engage with local, regional, and national athletic organizations to enhance the program and provide student athletes with opportunities for exposure and development.Foster partnerships with community organizations to enhance both academic and athletic experiences for student athletes.7. Compliance and Reporting:Ensure the program complies with all relevant educational laws, regulations, and athletic governing body rules.Prepare and submit reports on the academic and athletic performance of students, program budgets, and other key metrics to district or educational boards.Implement safety protocols and emergency preparedness plans for both academic and athletic activities.
