Educate girls. Change the world.Yuwa India is seeking a school leader to join our team and foster a positive, challenging, inclusive learning environment for our students. Your primary responsibilities will be to supervise and mentor our teaching team as well as oversee day-to-day school operations.Candidates must be excited by the mission of creating a low-cost, world-class educational experience for girls in villages from lower caste and tribal backgrounds. About YuwaYuwa is an internationally acclaimed non-governmental organization that uses education and sport to put girls powerfully in charge of their own futures. Yuwa is registered as a Trust in India, and has been working in the same community since 2009. Yuwa is based in villages in the Ranchi district of Jharkhand, where girls are especially at risk of dropping out of school, child marriage, gender-related violence, and human trafficking. Through the creation of football teams, girls gain leadership skills and confidence, continue their education, and are less likely to be forced into child marriage. Here, teamwork is a powerful force to promote health, education and improved livelihoods among the most important agents of change—young women.Almost all of Yuwa’s external representation is done by the girls themselves, including numerous TEDx talks. Yuwa has been featured in Al-Jazeera, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek, BBC, Sports Illustrated, Hindustan Times, Times of India, ABC News, and other media in India and internationally. The vision of our school is: Every girl’s future in her own hands. Our mission is to enable students to reach their full academic potential, develop critical and creative thinking skills, and become compassionate, empowered leaders in their communities. Yuwa School follows CBSE curriculum for standards 1 - 8, and NIOS curriculum for standards 9 - 12. Our current campus supports 100 students, 10 full-time teachers, and 2 volunteer teachers. The school will run on a leased campus in Hutup village until building of our permanent and residential campus will be completed. Principal responsibilities include:Oversee day-to-day school operations Manage school logistics and budgetsSet learning goals for students and teachers based on national curriculaMonitor and report on teacher performancePresent data from school performance to Education DirectorResearch new resources and techniques to improve teaching Review, implement, and update school policies Provide guidance, mentorship, and counseling to teachers Handle emergencies and school crisesOrganize school events, competitions, and assembliesEnsure a safe and clean environment for studentsManage school relations with students’ families and School Management CommitteeQualificationsUniversity graduateExperience in the field of education, ideally in school administrationExperience leading and managing a team of peoplePositive recommendation from past employers or professorsRequired Skills Fluent in English Strong organizational, executive, and record keeping skills Flexibility – able to work independently and also take direction as needed Resourceful with limited infrastructure Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with fellow teachers, students and parentsCuriosity: demonstrated desire to continue learningSense of urgency: desire to make the most of your time Starting DateThe starting date for the new School Leader would ideally be May/June 2025, but is negotiable based the candidate’s previous obligations.
