Job Description: Head of Department (HOD) - Science The Head of Department will lead the science faculty, overseeing the academic rigor and curriculum implementation for Chemistry/Physics. The HOD will ensure alignment with IB standards, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and foster a culture of academic excellence. This leadership role requires a focus on continuous improvement, data-driven strategies, and driving student achievement through innovative teaching practices. The HOD will be responsible for overseeing curriculum development, academic policies, and assessments, and supporting the professional growth of science faculty to ensure a high-quality learning experience for all students. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Leadership and Development: Curriculum development and implementation for Chemistry/Physics, ensuring alignment with IB standards and best practices. Drive student achievement and foster academic excellence by ensuring a challenging and engaging science curriculum. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating science with other subject areas to create a holistic and well-rounded educational experience. Academic Oversight and Improvement: Oversee the academic rigor of the science programs, ensuring consistency and quality in teaching and learning across all divisions. Establish, implement, and monitor academic policies and procedures to improve program consistency and support high standards. Conduct regular academic audits and assessments to identify areas for growth and implement strategies to address them. Data-Driven Strategies for Student Success: Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor and improve student outcomes in Chemistry/Physics . Analyse academic performance data and collaborate with faculty to implement targeted strategies that drive student progress and academic success. Professional Development and Faculty Support: Lead the science faculty, providing mentorship, support, and guidance for continuous professional development. Encourage innovation in curriculum delivery and promote best practices in teaching and learning across all levels of the science department. Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork among science faculty to ensure the sharing of knowledge, resources, and teaching strategies. Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement: Regularly review academic targets and student outcomes to drive continuous improvement across the science programs. Develop and implement strategies to support underperforming students and raise the overall academic achievement within the department. Monitor the progress of science students and ensure that individual learning needs are being met. Parent and Community Engagement: Maintain strong communication with parents, providing updates on academic progress, curriculum changes, and key developments within the science department. Represent the science department in meetings with school leadership and external stakeholders, ensuring the integration of science goals with overall school objectives. Qualifications and Experience: A Master's degree in Science (preferably Chemistry or Physics) or a related field; 10-12 years of experience with IB Curriculum. Proven experience in teaching Chemistry and/or Physics, with an in-depth understanding of IB curriculum and assessment frameworks. Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of educators. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students, faculty, and parents effectively.
