Job Description

Position Overview:The Solar PV Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing electrical systems for solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation projects. The engineer will work on system layout, electrical design, and performance analysis to ensure that solar energy systems meet industry standards, safety codes, and client requirements. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, architects, and installation teams, to deliver efficient and sustainable solar energy solutions. Key Responsibilities: System Design and Layout: Design electrical systems for solar PV projects, including DC and AC circuits, inverters, transformers, and wiring. Prepare detailed electrical designs and layouts using specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVsyst). Develop interconnection diagrams, single-line diagrams, and cable schedules for both residential, commercial, and industrial solar systems. Performance Analysis and Optimization: Conduct energy yield simulations and electrical system analysis to determine the most efficient solar power generation setup. Ensure the design complies with industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, UL). Optimize system components (solar panels, inverters, and batteries) to meet performance specifications and client expectations. Code Compliance and Safety: Ensure that designs comply with national and local electrical codes and safety standards. Design grounding and surge protection systems to protect the PV system from electrical faults or surges. Review and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory guidelines during the design process. Collaboration and Project Coordination: Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and project managers to ensure timely and efficient design completion. Assist with feasibility studies, site assessments, and energy assessments to determine system requirements. Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning phases to ensure designs are correctly implemented. Documentation and Reporting: Create comprehensive design documentation, including electrical design reports, system specifications, and user manuals. Prepare project proposals, cost estimates, and technical reports for clients and stakeholders. Maintain detailed project records, including design iterations, materials, and regulatory approvals. Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in solar PV technology and electrical design practices. Review project feedback to refine design processes and improve system performance and efficiency. Contribute to the development of new solutions and innovations in solar energy systems. Qualifications: Education:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. Experience:At least 3–5 years of experience in designing electrical systems for solar PV installations. Software Proficiency:Familiarity with solar design software such as AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVsyst, and electrical simulation tools. Knowledge of Standards:In-depth knowledge of electrical codes (NEC, IEC, UL) and industry best practices for solar PV systems. Certifications (Preferred): NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification or equivalent. Project management certifications (PMP) or other relevant certifications. Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking. Excellent communication skills for client and team collaboration. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software. Work Environment: The role may involve both office-based design work and occasional site visits for project assessments and troubleshooting. Some projects may require travel to job sites, especially during the installation and commissioning phases.
