Provides expert legal opinions and advice concerning GE laws, precedents, interpretations, and application to eligible individual clients in the HQ USAREUR-AF and US Army Garrison, Wiesbaden (USAG Wiesbaden) area of responsibility (AOR). Actively participates in the formulation, development, and administration of the Legal Assistance, Tax Assistance, and Preventive Law areas of legal practice. Mentors and trains junior U.S. military, US and HN civilian attorneys, and other staff on matters related to areas of practice. Translates complex legal documents from German to English and vice versa. Provides professional legal services to eligible US military and civilian personnel on various legal matters. Renders professional consultation and advice on numerous matters including but not limited to host nation marriage, separation, divorce, nonsupport, paternity, child custody, wills, guardianship, health care directives, leases, evictions, landlord disputes, personal property, bankruptcy, debts, banking problems, credit cards, insurance coverage and disputes, various taxes, civilian criminal matters, and traffic violations. Provides guidance in negotiating resolutions in civil law matters. Maintains current knowledge of HN constitutional, criminal, administrative, and civil law. Guides clients in obtaining legal documents and explains rights and procedures. Identifies and resolves legal, ethical, and client conflict of interest situations. Complies with applicable US and HN ethical rules and requirements of legal practice. Performs policy and legal services program management functions. Keeps abreast of current German judicial, legislative, and regulatory developments. Advises the Chief, Client Services Division regarding critical legal developments. Prepares and presents instruction at theater-wide conferences and continuing legal education events. Provides technical supervision and training to HN and US paralegal/clerical employees. Reviews outgoing German language legal documents for quality control. Interprets and/or translates court proceedings. Performs other duties as assigned.Qualification RequirementsApplicants must be graduates of a German university with major study in German basic law (abgeschlossenes Jurastudium) and possess the 1st and 2nd State Examination (1. und 2. Staatsexamen). Education completed in foreign law schools cannot be credited as the position requires expertise in German law; PLUS 2 years of job-related experience. Office automation skills required. Driver''s license class B required.
