About the Role Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Global Development and Procurement, the Vice President, Development will support our global businesses by providing strategic support to our Portfolio Companies who are driving the origination, development and commercial structuring of renewable energy projects around the world portfolios and companies in on and offshore wind, solar, energy storage and other technologies. With a development pipeline of approximately 200GW and our pace of commissioning projects tracking towards 10GW a year and growing, the successful candidate will focus on building efficiencies and identifying opportunities for collaboration on development projects to support growth objectives within our Portfolio Companies to enhance speed of development and further drive risk-adjusted returns. This position requires knowledge across all stages of development including origination; business case development; economic evaluation and risk assessment; negotiation and structuring; permitting, interconnect and land acquisition; and commercial aspects to advance and de-risk projects. Key Responsibilities Development Best Practices & Reporting Oversee the Global Development Pipeline report with a focus on pipeline data quality and bringing efficiencies to the reporting process Sharing best practices, key learnings & development standards Conduct regular check-ins on project performance and progress, identifying areas for improvement and proposing corrective actions as needed Understand and track benchmarks for development projects in key markets across CapEx, OpEx, and DevEx and development timelines to support model development and ad-hoc analyses Support financing optimization initiative to improve timeline to close project financing Cross-functional collaboration & Stakeholder management Work with Portfolio Companies and Asset Management to support and drive Development growth across all segments globally Provide Development capabilities and support to Portfolio Companies when needed (particularly when standing up a new business or growing development in a region where we have less experience) Identification and leadership of cross-platform initiatives Work collaboratively within the Global Development team (which covers Key Accounts, Global Strategic Procurement, Markets and Technical) to identify key value drivers and leverage Brookfields global capabilities Acquisitions and Divestments / M&A: Support development pipeline quality assessment during due diligence when local team requires support, supporting the M&A team in identifying, assessing, and executing on project pipelines for development. Lead the screening, prioritization, and due diligence of potential project development acquisition opportunities when required Support regional asset management and investment teams in maximizing value of development pipeline upon divestment Leadership: Provide Development leadership to the business, maintaining strong networks within the energy industry and key stakeholders in the area of project development Manage one team member responsible for the day-to-day activities around corporate development and reporting Identify opportunities to leverage external consultants to optimize results Knowledge and Experience Required University degree in Finance, Business, Management or Engineering or in another technical or relevant related discipline A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the energy industry, with at least 3 years experience in Renewables, preferably in a Development role Solid understanding of overall risks, benefits and returns of development projects and the key drivers to success, including strong understanding of development dependencies on land, interconnection and permitting. Ability to quickly assess and prioritize the potential value, risks and returns of a project Impressive track record and experience in originating, developing, negotiating and/or structuring bankable renewable energy projects or investment transactions Working knowledge of project financing of renewable energy projects Significant experience and understanding of the Global power and related markets, specifically as it relates to project development and acquisitions in the renewable sector Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities Self-motivated, with a high level of initiative. Proven experience in leading cross functional teams in advancing performance and process improvement projects through to execution Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present operational information clearly and effectively Note: Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfields identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days to perform most effectively. We will reassess the approach on a as needed basis.
