Senior Vice President, Construction The SVP, Construction will oversee a portfolio of purpose built rental residential and mixed-use projects. Leading a team of construction professionals located in offices in Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria, the SVP will have direct involvement in conceptualization through all stages of project delivery. The role will include oversight of all aspects of construction activity, including design, pre-construction, estimating, tendering, construction contract negotiations, construction planning, evaluating construction means and methods, forecasting, monitoring financial performance, building and suite delivery, and project close-out. This is a senior leadership position that requires a hands-on approach, and expertise in all stages of construction and risk management. The SVP will easily move between site involvement and stakeholder management, including with Institutional Partners. Duties and responsibilities: Provide leadership to internal team members, monitoring team goals and objectives while providing mentorship and training; Develop, implement and monitor construction process and controls, ensuring a framework that allows for success at all stages of the project and is in accordance with specifications, project goals and quality; Oversee the preparation of drawings, budgets, schedules, within the approved plans and specifications from pre-construction through to completion; Work with the Finance team to oversee the monthly construction draw process, monitor monthly construction draws against project budgets, schedules and project controls; Monthly review and reporting of all construction projects internally and with Partners; Oversee value engineering with design consultants, engineers and external Construction Managers to gain efficiencies and anticipate potential problems; Build and maintain strategic relationships with existing and new vendors/consultants/ trades; Qualify and select external construction partners; Collaborate closely with the Development and Investment teams in addition to Senior Leadership; Provide executive strategy and direction on the development of all large-scale master plan communities; Oversee and provide recommendations to the Development team for the selection of third-party project consultants, architects, and engineers; Leveraging industry best practices, lead the creation and implementation of the construction technology and innovation function to enable advancement in field construction methods and increase productivity. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a University Degree, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management or related field, and a minimum of 20 years of progressive industry experience leading to senior leadership roles in multi-unit and high-rise residential construction at both a strategic and hands-on level. This individual will have completed multiple full construction cycles in urban, multi-phased, residential and mixed-use project settings; experience providing thoughtful and strong leadership and ability to develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced, professional environment. The SVP must possess a proven ability to build relationships, collaborate and communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally with third parties and Partners, and have excellent organizational planning skills that result in the effective management of multiple, competing business priorities.
