POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Manager is responsible for managing the Companys Food Safety and Quality Management Systems through training, audits, writing procedures and work instructions (SOPs), including developing and assisting with HACCP, GMP and Quality initiatives. ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage all functions of the quality department to ensure all products and processes are in compliance with all regulatory requirements (Safe Foods for Canadians and FSMA) and companys standards and policies. Implement Food Safety/Quality policies, programs and initiatives and maintain a strong food safety culture throughout all levels of the organization. Work closely with internal and external business partners to ensure food safety and quality assurance programs/initiatives are implemented and maintained. Supervise and develop Quality team members through proper coaching and training to ensure uniform interpretation and application of standards and procedures. Manage Quality team members with performance evaluation tools and provide feedback for improvements on a regular basis. Collaborate to lead and conduct internal and external audits. Manage and coordinate the audits and certification process relating to FSSC, Quality, Organic, Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, KOSHER, FDA, CFIA, Non-GMO, Social, etc. Prepare and review reports of audit findings and initiating, monitoring and enforcing corrective action. Manage the HACCP, Recall, Food Defense and CPAR teams. Manage the Supplier/Subcontractor approval and pest control programs. Manage third party laboratory tests including microbiological, water, etc. Inspect production floor for GMP compliance and effectively coach employees who are not in compliance of Food Safety and QA protocol, and communicate with cross-functional teams when employee nonconformance requires disciplinary action. Partner with engineering and operations to ensure sanitation practices and design of facilities and equipment are compliant with food safety and regulatory requirements. Write and enforce SOPs relating to food safety and QA. Responsible for controlling all relevant documents in the organization. Manage the record verification program with plant/production management. Create all manufacturing and product specification sheets. Work with Director of QRD to ensure package labeling and nutrition facts requirements compliant with Canadian and US regulations, as well as any applicable certifying bodies (Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, Kosher, Halal, etc.) Oversee the commissioning of new equipment ensuring compliance. Expand FSSC Certification to new production lines/warehouses. Develop and deliver training, including coordinating and providing technical training to plant operational teams and management regarding food safety, quality awareness and management. Assist with customer feedback process including customer surveys and complaints. Verification of food safety, cleaning/sanitation, GMP records and assist with validation of equipment, CCPs and CPs. Work with ERP system and Inventory team on traceability for all products. Coordinate and initiate mock recalls with Recall Team. Develop and implement rework processes for traceability purposes. Provide regular reports on the progress of implementing new standards and certifications, learning from practice and analyzing food safety and quality patterns and trends including KPIs across the organization. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION: Bachelor of Science or other relevant University degree. Strong background in FSSC 22000 or other GFSI programs, ISO 9001:2015, HACCP and GMP. Food manufacturing experience required. A minimum of 2 years leadership experience in a Food Safety/QA role. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Understanding of machine operations in a manufacturing environment is desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills, conflict resolution and leadership skills. Proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. Proficient in ERP (Navision or Business Central). Solid understanding and knowledge of all relevant production processes, equipment capabilities, and Procedures, Work Instructions and Technical Specifications. Effective time management and organization skills. Self-motivated and highly organized, with a strong focus on detail and accuracy.
