This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced Estates Law Clerk to play a key role in our busy practice. We are seeking a highly organized and proactive full-time Estates Law Clerk with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience to join our Estate Litigation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for independently managing day-to-day estate administration tasks and providing crucial support in estate litigation matters. This role requires a strong understanding of probate procedures and estate administration and excellent communication and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working collaboratively within a small team. Responsibilities: Independently manage and progress estate administration files from initial intake to final distribution. Prepare and file probate applications and related court documents. Communicate effectively and professionally with various stakeholders, including financial institutions, real estate agents, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and beneficiaries. Prepare basic communications and updates for beneficiaries. Maintain organized and up-to-date file records. Utilize probate software and estate administration/accounting software to manage files and track financial information. Assist with the preparation of estate accounts and bookkeeping for estate administrations ( an asset ). Conduct basic legal research and gather relevant information. Assist lawyers with the preparation of litigation documents, including pleadings, affidavits, and briefs ( as required ). Support lawyers in the negotiation and mediation of estate and will disputes and challenges (experience considered an asset). Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and excellent client service. Manage a high volume of work with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Perform other administrative tasks as required to support the practice. Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of practical experience as an Estates Law Clerk, preferably with a focus on estate litigation and/or administration. Strong understanding of Ontario probate rules, procedures, and relevant legislation. Familiarity with probate software and estate administration/accounting software. Proven ability to independently manage estate administration files and meet deadlines. Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle a busy estate litigation practice. Ability to work independently and take initiative. A strong work ethic and a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team. Familiarity with negotiating, mediating, and litigating estate and will disputes and challenges is considered an asset.
