Who We Are: Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTCs Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city. As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project, we are looking for a qualified Legal Counsel to join our team. What You Will Do: Provide legal support with respect to claims, including investigating, analyzing, managing, negotiating and resolving claims. Provide legal leadership on behalf of STC for the drafting and negotiation of key subcontract and supply agreements, and other related documents. Identify core legal and commercial issues of importance to STC and work closely with project leadership to prepare negotiation positions and advocate said positions with counter-parties. Provide legal support for the project team with particular emphasis on supporting the subcontract administration team and commercial team. Manage and monitor compliance with STCs policies in relation to subcontracts. Build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with senior project leadership external counsel, consultants and other stakeholders. Fostering and promoting a work environment that is: productive, collaborative, inclusive and diverse with a team culture of integrity, professionalism and excellence. Follow developments in caselaw and statutes. Provide project management with advice and recommendations and claim strategy. Develop and improve dispute processes and procedures. Educate project team across all disciplines regarding claim prevention and management dispute resolution. Experience You Will Bring: You are an active member in good standing of a Law Society in Canada. You have demonstrated working experience/knowledge of commercial contract law and claims/disputes. You have working knowledge of the Construction Act (Ontario). You have 3 or more years legal experience in a private practice or as in-house counsel in contractual claims, disputes and negotiations. You have demonstrated versatility with the ability to learn new project delivery models. You have demonstrated verbal reasoning skills with the ability to interpret the precise definition of written documents such as contracts, legislation and case decisions. You are an effective communicator, negotiator and consensus builder and can effectively influence without formal authority and work collaboratively with colleagues and divergent stakeholder positions.
