Overview: The COO will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the full lifecycle of community solar project development and operations, from engineering and procurement to construction, operations and asset management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solar energy infrastructure, operational leadership, and process optimization, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of high-quality solar projects. This role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to execution and team leadership. Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership & Strategy : Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency, scalability, and profitability across engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and asset management functions. Collaborate with the executive team to set company-wide goals and ensure alignment with business objectives. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows, reduce costs, and improve project timelines. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational success. Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) : Ensure on-time and on-schedule deployment of all projects. Manage implementation of SmartSheets to properly track and report on schedules then amend further, in collaboration with the business systems leader, to ensure accurate cash flow tracking. Focus team on proactive management of potential critical path items through early detection with appropriate vendor and contractor escalations. Take lessons learned from the operations team to inform equipment and EPC best practices. Oversee project design and engineering teams to ensure compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Manage procurement strategies to optimize supplier relationships, reduce costs, and ensure the timely delivery of materials. Lead construction operations to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and at the highest quality standards. Ensure proper risk management and adherence to safety and environmental compliance measures. Operations and Asset Management : Oversee the performance of operational community solar assets, optimizing energy production and maximizing return on investment. Proactive regarding site performance and quickly take appropriate corrective actions. Optimization plans and targets to ensure effective up-time on operating sites. Develop escalation plans with all equipment vendors and contractors to ensure speed resolution of issues identified on site. Implement proactive maintenance strategies to improve system reliability and longevity. Leverage data analytics to monitor system performance and drive efficiency improvements. Manage relationships with asset owners, utilities, and stakeholders to ensure contractual and financial obligations are met. Team Leadership & Development : Build and lead high-performing teams across operations, engineering, procurement, and asset management. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration. Develop and mentor talent, ensuring team members have the necessary skills and resources to succeed. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field (Masters degree preferred). 10+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry, with a strong background in community solar, energy storage, utility-scale solar, or distributed generation. Proven track record of managing EPC and asset management functions in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of solar project development, regulatory requirements, and financial modeling. Experience with contract negotiation, supplier management, and construction oversight. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking skills. Strong leadership and team-building capabilities with the ability to drive results in a fast-paced environment.
