Position SummaryPOWERGROUP Resources, on behalf of our client Wessuc Inc is seeking a strategic, hands-on Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and evolve our operations across Ontario. As a key member of the executive team, the COO will be responsible for optimizing day-to-day operations, ensuring organizational compliance, and driving long-term growth in a field-based, service-driven business.This role is ideal for an experienced COO or CEO with a background in asset-intensive industriessuch as construction, logistics, agriculture, utilities, or industrial serviceswho is ready to bring their leadership, operational insight, and business acumen into a critical and growing environmental sector.The successful candidate will oversee cross-functional teams, guide risk and compliance strategies, and foster a high-performance culture rooted in safety, accountability, and sustainable service delivery. We continue to expand our services and our capabilities to contribute to cleaner, greener, and sustainable communities everyday.What We OfferCompetitive base salary with performance-based bonusComprehensive benefits plan (health, dental, vision, etc.)RRSP matching programCompany vehicle or car allowanceOpportunities for continued professional development and industry certificationsA mission-driven company culture focused on sustainability, safety, and growthQualificationsProven executive leadership experience (8+ years) as a COO, CEO, or senior operational leader, ideally within asset-heavy, service-driven industries such as construction, agriculture, logistics, utilities, environmental consulting, or industrial services.Post-secondary education in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field; MBA or equivalent executive training is an asset.Demonstrated success in scaling operations, managing cross-functional teams, and driving performance in field-based service businesses.Strong financial and operational acumen, with experience overseeing budgets, P&L, and strategic planning.Solid understanding of human resources, labour relations, and employment standards in Ontario and other regionsExperience supporting workforce development, recruitment, and performance management.Familiarity with contract law, regulatory compliance, and identifying operational and legal risk; experience working alongside legal counsel and regulatory bodies.Ability to assess risk and ensure safety, liability, and reputational concerns are proactively managed across operations.Experience implementing systems, improving processes, and leading organizational change.Ability to quickly understand technical field operations and develop credibility with frontline teams.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with a collaborative and hands-on approach to problem-solving.Willingness to learn about environmental regulations and support a mission-driven, sustainability-focused business.Valid Ontario drivers licence and willingness to travel across operational sites as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and optimize daily operations including biosolids hauling, land application, tank/lagoon cleaning, and related services.Ensure full compliance with MECP regulations, environmental approvals (EAs), and other relevant provincial and municipal requirements.Manage operational budgets, logistics, equipment utilization, and field staff scheduling.Build and mentor high-performing field teams and supervisory staff across multiple sites.Coordinate with municipal clients, farming and industrial partners to ensure project satisfaction and long-term relationship building.Track and report on KPIs such as productivity, safety, environmental compliance, and client satisfaction.Lead continuous improvement initiatives and support innovation in biosolids processing and field operations.Contribute to long-term strategic planning alongside the CEO and senior leadership team.
