Job Description

This position is unionized (represented by the Society of United Professionals) and reports to the Training Program Manager.Mississauga or Cambridge, ON.General AccountabilitiesThe Technical Training Developer will develop, maintain, research and perform reviews of technical material, including content for technical courses, safety awareness courses, Code courses, Inspector training, safety meeting presentations and conference presentations.Assist in developing various training tools for training initiatives, including continuing education for licensed contractors and preparing training packages.Support continuing education initiatives for licensed contractors.Maintain an awareness of regional inspection needs and deal with multiple related issues.Perform other duties as required.Develop Technical Training MaterialConsult with Training Development Specialist, Technical Training Developer (Engineering and Regulations), Trainers, and other internal and external stakeholders on developing technical material for classroom, e Learning and virtual training programs and continuing education initiatives.Administer the Implementation of TrainingEnsure training products, services, and recognized training programs meet quality standards and suggest necessary improvements.Actively seek information on new training ideas, strategies and trends that impact compliance and electrical safety.Assist in administering programs for continuing education of licensed contractors and Master Electricians.Receive requests from the supervisor to examine particular aspects of electrical installations or equipment.Consult with other advisors, managers, certification organizations, equipment manufacturers, consultants, utility staff, and other stakeholders.Consult the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, utility and other codes and regulations, standards and guidelines, safety records and technical literature.Research and Develop ProcessesAttend meetings at regional offices, inspection offices and job sites as necessary, to understand problems and recommend workable solutions.Maintain an awareness of regional inspection needs, inspection issues, emerging trends in installations, opportunities for new programs and make suggestions for improving processes as appropriate.Selection Criteria4-year University education or by having the equivalent level of education and 6 to 8 years of experience.Knowledge of general business practices, adult education principles and learning theories are required to understand and apply current training programs in a business environment.Exceptional communication and Interpersonal skillsRequires a broad knowledge of electrical principles.Must have a strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and an understanding of electrical theory and practice as these apply to installing and maintaining electrical equipment, design layout and specifications.Experience:Requires experience in the electrical construction industry to understand the various electrical safety training requirements issues.Requires a background that will support technical training initiatives' design, development, delivery and evaluation.Requires knowledge of the service programs of the ESA to understand processes, procedures, and technical and business operations.Requires Learning Management Systems and Microsoft Office experience, including those associated with adult learning programs and their delivery.Please be advised that in relation to all job postings, accommodation for persons with disabilities is available throughout the selection process, upon request in accordance with requirements under the Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
