Job Description

We are recruiting an experienced Director of Engineering to join our team. Our client, the largest Tool & Mold manufacturer in North America is looking for a strategic leader who can structure their Engineering department and processes to reduce error rates while improving productivity, timing, and cost. If you have experience dealing with OEM's this is the position for you. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, you will be a senior leader within the global management team and will develop and maintain sustainable design processes across the mobility division. Success in the Director of Engineering role will be measured by the on-time delivery and quality of engineering files to achieve overall objectives of lead time reduction, cost savings, and value-added services that sustain business successRESPONSIBILITIES:Directing, coaching, and supporting the engineering team, working with Leads to oversee engineering operations ensuring weekly and monthly goals are obtainedWork closely with the Vice President of Program Management, Operations Manager(s), and Director of Sales to ensure the execution of the programs are on time and on budgetWorking directly with OEM and Tier 1 customers to support their requirements Development of standards and practices that support high-performance within the Engineering Teams located in Canada, US, Mexico, China, and India Meet regularly with department leaders, including Program Management, Sales, and Operations, to facilitate the resolution of issues/problems of customers and manufacturing Participate in the Customer Program lifecycle gates review, from initial quotation through to kick-off and final delivery, making changes as required by the customer Ensure that the final outputs of designs are cost-effective and meet customer requirements in line with company standards Prepare plans and schedules in consultation with Team Leads and Operations Management for all Program delivery, ensuring resource loading and workload, including off-shoring resources Drive continuous improvement to reduce overall lead time and improve quality, including implementing S.O.P (across all locations) for the purpose of customer satisfaction and achieving bottom-line improvements Assist in competitively quoting with the assistance of the Estimating Group Ensure and approve all expenditures are challenged at the necessary levels of decision-making to achieve weekly and monthly financial targets Review and approve spending for the department including purchase requisitions, outsourcing, and training requirements Foster and develop collaboration between departments, business units, and other internal groups to ensure an integrated approach to operations and fulfilling the organizations goals and objectives. Understand and present the company as a global provider to new clients while maintaining a firm knowledge of each locations capabilityIdentify process improvement opportunities available through emerging technologies currently available in the market or through Company R&D initiativesREQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Engineering Degree (B.Sc., P.Eng., Masters or equivalent) is preferred 8-10 years of automotive manufacturing and/or engineering experienceDemonstrated ability to lead an engineering departmentExperience working directly with OEM and Tier 1 customers Supervisory or management experience leading global teams and outsourcing initiativesKnowledgeable in Integrated Manufacturing and Design related to both OEM and Manufacturing facilityKnowledge of Mold Design practices, injection molding technologies, and familiarity with tool design and machining, along with relevant Engineering Software Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills Excellent organizational and planning skills Ability to perform under pressure, work independently on complex issuesAbility to travel internationallyMEDA offers an excellent referral bonus.
