POSITION SUMMARY: The Refrigeration Mechanic inspects, maintains, repairs and installs refrigeration equipment for preserving food, making ice, cooling water, and air conditioning the hospital buildings. All work is carried out in accordance with established guidelines and standards.QUALIFICATIONS: -Grade 12 diploma with courses in mathematics, physics, shop, blueprint reading, and mechanical drawing-Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Refrigeration Mechanic-A minimum of 5 years experience plus selected instruction in the refrigeration field-Numerical ability is needed to perform arithmetic calculations in determining equipment efficiency and in the cutting and assembling of tubing and parts-Proven aptitude for working on mechanical units, maintaining and repairing refrigeration equipment-Initiative and judgement required in planning installation of new equipment, detecting malfunctioning of equipment, and making repairs-Ability to work to set standards following manufacturer's specifications and blueprintsRESPONSIBILITIES: -Adheres to all safety regulations an maintains a good preventative maintenance schedule-Inspects and troubleshoots refrigeration equipment; coolers, freezers, and air conditioning units to determine that all are functioning properly-Examines refrigeration equipment using appropriate equipment, observing condition of electric motor, cleaning dirt and lint from motor and condenser, and adding or removing refrigerant to adjust vacuum or pressure-Carries out corrective and preventative maintenance work to refrigeration equipment as established by Supervisor.-Tests efficiency of systems with appropriate test equipment, and makes adjustments where necessary-Installs and repairs equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and blueprints-Participates in the installation of pipelines, wiring, structural platforms, and protective coverings-Handles procedures such as winter shutdown, spring start-up, routine summer checks of the rooftop units used for air conditioning of the hospital buildings-Evacuates refrigerant from defective / obsolete equipment in accordance with TSSA standards-Works within Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including creating Work Orders and completing Work Order Completion Comments-Performs and carries out other duties and assignments as directed-Responds to emergency calls as required on occasion-Participates in Root Cause Failure Analysis investigations as required-Supports supervisors with Equipment Maintenance Programs for refrigeration equipment as requiredHOURLY RATE: $35.14...$35.81....$36.47
