Nature of WorkManaging of the Factory Inspection (FI) program, field audit duties of work conducted by Factory Inspections staff and contractors. Duties include the maintenance and development of training and monitoring competencies of factory inspectors which will require limited travel to domestic sites by car and air to visit manufacturing and installation sites. Direct contact with the client and clients staff is a part of this position including technical inquiries and customer service. Reporting Structure This position reports to the Managing Director and also interfaces directly with Operations and Quality Assurance Examples of Work: Listed examples are illustrative and representative of the tasks required of this position, and are not intended to be complete or exclusive. Management and Coordination of Factory Inspection program and all related work activities. Performing and Managing of Field/Factory Witness Audits as required by applicable Accreditation Criteria. Perform random audits/review on FI Reports. Final Review and approvals of Initial Factory Inspections. Development and delivery of training program for FI Staff to meet accreditation criteria. Including qualifying new inspectors and requalifying existing inspectors. Updating of related competency matrix. Participation in external/internal audits that relate to the Factory Inspection Program. Conduct audits as requested by QA. Assist the follow-up services coordinator in preparation of proposals (quotes) for customers and follow-up on all proposals (quotes) issued. Assisting the follow-up services coordinator, customer service, and accounting with invoices being sent out to clients and ensuring invoices are paid in a timely manner. Manage Factory Inspection Program, ensuring all inspections are scheduled and completed as required by accreditation criteria. Reviewing Factory inspection program budget on an on-going basis to ensure there is adequate resources in geographic locations to complete inspections on time and within budgeted inspection times on-site. Review and approve expense accounts and overtime requisitions for Field Inspection Staff. Communication with all Field Inspection staff. Deal with calls of a technical nature from Factory Inspection Staff and working with the Certification and Testing Managers support ,find technical solutions and communicate back to staff and clients where necessary Coordinate the Factory Inspection activities for external QPS contractors as required. Provide on-going training for new and existing Factory Inspectors Interface with the AHJs on technical matters and answer questions in this regard that are related to labeled equipment. Interface with clients, inspectors and operations in resolving variances. Make Final Decisions to reduce the number and frequency of factory inspections based on the manufacturers limited production schedule and previous inspection results. Make Final Decisions to cancel files upon customers request or operations recommendations. Investigate complaints from the field or from inspectors, AHJs, and ABs pertaining to misuse of the mark reported from factory inspections, AHJs and ABs. Making decisions on the use of non ISO/IEC 17025 calibrated factory test equipment following QPS procedures. Review stop marking/shipping requests from factory inspectors or operations and make a decision. Prepare cancellation notices on the request from accounting for clients not paying their invoices. Approving any remote factory inspection requests. A resource to the factory inspections department. Required Qualifications: Must hold one of the following qualifications: Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist (CET); Applied Science Technician/Technologist (AScT); Professional Engineer (P.Eng); Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP); Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC); or a fully Certified Electrician. Minimum of 5 years of direct product testing and evaluation to electrical safety standards. Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17020 processes related to certification and inspections. Regulatory knowledge for; North American electrical construction/installations Codes CEC/NEC.
