About the NSMBAThe North Shore Mountain Bike Association is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to caring for and advocating for a sustainable, inclusive, and accessible trail network on Vancouvers North Shore. We work closely with land managers, stakeholders, and our vibrant community to maintain the trails and ensure the long-term health of this iconic riding area.Role SummaryThe Executive Director (ED) is the NSMBAs senior leader and chief spokesperson, responsible for advancing the organizations mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. The ED provides strategic leadership, drives community and stakeholder engagement, manages operations, and supports a passionate team of staff, contractors, and volunteers.This is a hands-on leadership roleperfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic, community-based environment and wants to make a lasting, positive impact on the North Shore trail network.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & GovernanceWork collaboratively with the Board to develop and execute the NSMBAs strategic plan and goalsProvide transparent, timely reporting to the Board on organizational performance, risks, and opportunitiesEnsure the organization operates in compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and agreementsChampion the NSMBAs mission and values across all areas of workTeam LeadershipIdentify the roles and staffing that the organization needs to succeedProvide leadership and support to staff, volunteers, and buildersFoster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative organizational cultureEmpower volunteers and Trail Adoption Program (TAP) partners to contribute meaningfully to the NSMBAs missionTrail Stewardship & AdvocacySupport the planning and delivery of trail maintenance, restoration, and advocacy initiativesWork with staff, Trail Crew, contractors, and volunteers to deliver high-quality trail projectsAdvocate for trail access, sustainability, and inclusion on behalf of the communityCommunity & Stakeholder RelationsBuild and maintain strong relationships with land managers, government agencies, Indigenous communities, sponsors, members, and the broader trail communityRepresent the organisation as the public face and primary spokespersonLead transparent, empathetic, and consistent communication with members and the public, particularly around sensitive or complex issuesCollaborate with industry and regional organizations to elevate the voice of the NSMBAOperations & Financial ManagementOversee day-to-day operations, including programs, staffing, partnerships, and infrastructure projectsDevelop and manage the annual budget (in collaboration with the Board), ensuring financial accountability and sustainabilityPursue new revenue streams, including grants, sponsorships, donations, and membership growthQualifications & ExperienceRequiredLegally entitled to work in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work permit)Proven leadership experience in a non-profit, community, or outdoor recreation organizationKnowledge of the North Shore trail network, mountain biking culture, or outdoor recreation sectorExperience managing staff, volunteers, and/or contractorsExperience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and navigating complex community issuesStrong financial management skills and experience managing budgetsStrong problem solving skills, organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent communication and relationship-building abilitiesReliable access to transportation required for some local travel within the Lower MainlandAvailability occasionally outside of regular business hours to attend community, committee and land manager meetingsPreferredExperience working with land managers, municipalities, and/or Indigenous communitiesFamiliarity with trail stewardship, advocacy, and environmental sustainabilityFundraising, sponsorship, or grant-writing experienceStrong conflict resolution and community engagement skillsProject or program management experienceSalary & BenefitsSalary range: $70k - $90k, commensurate with experienceEmployment benefits include supplemental health insurance, a flexible work schedule and the ability to work up to 75% from homeThe NSMBA is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming workplace.
