Position SummaryThe Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations, including production, quality control, employee supervision, and workplace safety. This role ensures that production goals are achieved on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The Plant Manager leads, mentors, and coordinates plant staff while promoting a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency. In addition to managing daily operations, the Plant Manager collaborates with engineering and technical teams on the design, development, and implementation of plant projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and company standards.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlant Operations & MaintenancePlan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities and operations of the plant.Responsible for managing the operations of Cut Knife Grain Elevator and Pea protein plant.Monitor the operating budget and carry out cost control.Administer safety protocols and enforcement to create a safe work environment for all employees and maintain a safe working record.Assign, coordinate, and review the technical/operational work of the team to optimize operating results.Work with operations and contractors to schedule maintenance shutdowns and repairs and identify opportunities for operational improvement.Complete and report on regular preventative maintenance on equipment, assets, and resources to ensure maximum long-term value.Assist with construction/expansion planning, budgeting, contracting, and execution.Monitor storage space optimization and ensure scheduled inventory checks are completed and recorded accurately.Identify opportunities for process improvement.Develop, maintain, and provide training on plant-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support efficient and safe operations so that Agrocorp Processing Ltd. (Agrocorp) may deliver its operational, safety, and financial objectives.Projects and EngineeringLiaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and data transfer with respect to quality systems and project needs.Consult and negotiate with clients to prepare specifications, explain proposals, and present engineering reports and findings.Maintain and monitor project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures.Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings; take meeting minutes and follow up on action items and decisions as required.Participate directly in the design, development, and inspection of technical projects and engineering work of the plant.Document, track, and order equipment and parts to ensure the effective and efficient management of plant assets and equipment inventory.Research funding, complete grant applications, and liaise with agencies and management to identify opportunities for market expansion, technology advancement, and employee training and development.Identify protocols for obtaining certifications (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), for example).Identify opportunities for process improvement.Develop, implement, and provide training on engineering and technical projects standard operating procedures (SOPs)to support efficient and safe operations so Agrocorp may deliver its operational, safety, and financial objectives.Merchandising & ExecutionKeep ongoing communication with procurement and trade team to ensure forecasted product volumes are met.Execute purchasing strategy with the purchasing team as directed and/or approved by senior management.Coordinate with the plant team, delivery trucks, and logistics team to schedule deliveries.Constantly communicate production status with logistics and trade teams and coordinate accordingly.Regulation & Quality ControlEnsure products meet all regulatory standards and all packaging meets customer quality specifications.Ensure that the plant operates within standards that meet all environmental, quality, and food safety government and certifying bodies' regulations.Always meet customer quality and service requirements.Handle quality discrepancies and settlements.Participate in plant audits and complete all needed subsequent action items within required timelines.Accounts & Contract ManagementDemonstrate accurate knowledge and understanding of the current contract terms and positions for each customer.Make notes/adjustment accordingly in Salesforce.SafetyEnsure all safety regulations are met and adhered to.Report and track all incidents and investigate incidents as required.Communicate, document, and trend hazard identifications and controls.Provide safety training and/or ensure employees are trained to complete the tasks they are asked to do.Act as a safety role model and set a positive safety example for all staff.Implement controls to reduce risks to people and equipment.Always wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) on the production floor and/or as directed.Teamwork & Human ResourcesInform Agrocorp teams of any issues or any items that would affect the delivery or execution of customer contracts immediately.Collaborate with the Human Resources department to manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, scheduling shifts, approving leave requests, and facilitating staff exits.Manage employee performance, including conducting probationary and annual performance appraisals (in coordination with HR).Motivate staff, assess performance, identify barriers that impede them from completing job duties, and recommend solutions.Work closely with other plants and departments to ensure effective collaboration.Develop teamwork to ensure effective functioning of the plant and connectivity between shifts.Train and/or share knowledge with the Agrocorp Canada teams.Foster a team culture.Specific Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPost-secondary education in, agriculture, agri-business, or an acceptable combination of experience and education.Proven experience overseeing plant operations and staff while adhering to all safety and quality regulations and standards.Proven ability in logistics methods and procedures.Food processing and/or grain commodity industry experience an asset.Multi-tasker who is a solution-focused and a decisive problem solver.Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.Strong time-management skills; ability to face deadlines, meet shipping dates, and manage team times accordingly.Interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to motivate employees using empathy, transparency, and integrity.Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, and Excel.Strong organizational skills.Ability to handle confidential materials.Special Conditions of EmploymentMust possess Canadian Permanent Resident status.Rural location, no public transit.Must be able to safely lift 23 kgs (50 pounds).Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, squat, and climb ladders and stairs several times a day.Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions throughout the year.CSA approved steel-toed boots are required.Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.*This description is not intended to be, nor should it be construed as, an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, or working conditions associated with the position.
