We are redefining the commercial interior construction sector, one project at a time and with a constant sense of improvement from our collective experiences.THE ROLE ESTIMATORFortitude Construction has an office in downtown Whitby, ON and currently requires an Estimator to join our team in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area of Ontario.The Estimator will be responsible for day-to-day tasks such as: preparing and reviewing the RFPs, Tender Invitations, analyzing and interpreting construction drawings and specifications to ensure accurate estimates; tender site visits; communicating with the clients & consultants during the pursuit; and submitting estimates and proposals for contract awards. Perform quantity take-offs where required for internal direct supplied materials or equipment and self-performed work.The Estimator will perform handover meetings along with senior management with the assigned project management team.The Estimator will be responsible for other month-to-month, quarterly and annual tasks such as but not limited too: conversion rate reports per sector, trade and supplier vendor development & vendor list updates, procurement development, project budget and estimate close-out debriefs, price database maintenance, pipeline review with business development staff and resource allocation, etc.The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working as an Estimator for a General Contractor in the Commercial Interiors, Institutional, and or Mixed-use sector within Ontario, Canada. The ideal candidate must also be able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tenders and estimates, which run concurrently, while rotating bidders lists.Candidates must have:Leadership skills, positive attitude and have a motivational personality.The ability to work independently and with the team throughout all aspects.Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and technical communication with all project stakeholders.Ability to prepare proposals for submission to clients and project contract negotiationsIdentify and select highly qualified subcontractors and solicit competitive pricing for tenders.Conduct thorough analysis of tender drawings. Comment on the design, scheduling, possible cost savings and potential construction problems. Create and maintain a comprehensive RFI list along with a log of critical and important communications between client-consultant and our company.Attend on-site reviews/investigations, tender walk-throughs, site visits Attend trade shows, industry conferences in the interest of staying up-to-date with trends, tech and vendor partners.Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for material, labour, equipment, subcontracts and construction facilities.Develop and review subcontractor scope of work and accept, review, and analyze contractor quotes for the best value.Maintain good relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.Maintain Master Tender List and ensure up-to-date trade information, along with consistently in search for new trades to add.Coordinate and present bids in a timely and organized manner to management.Prepare project bid status reports and ensure compliance with all specifications and Contract Statements of Work and Bid Invitations. With an understanding and contractual terms and conditionsAttention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritizeAccountable and responsible for your success and failure.Creative and critical thinking Confident knowledge of construction industry methods with the high quality standards.Ability and interest to build strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and clients.Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience in construction management/general contracting/ design-build, including overseeing project estimates in the ICI sector ranging from commercial interiors, interior alterations, ground up construction, etc.Experience in using estimating & project management software will be an asset Square Space and Bluebeam are used in-house.Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniquesKnowledge of landlord tenant lease agreements, lease schedules, building-property management contractor manuals and guidelines, base-building trade requirements.Ability to analyze and interpret construction drawings and specificationsProficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating softwareConstruction specific - Industry certifications, Trade qualifications, 3-yr diploma, or 4-yr degree will be an asset and will be highly regarded by the hiring team.This is role is open to the following options: permanent full-time or contract - both with competitive compensation and benefits packages.Please send a cover letter and resume to cover letter must reference this job posting specifically and the role with a brief explanation as to why you would be a great addition for the Fortitude Construction team.
