Job Description

Work location can either be in Toronto, Hamilton, or Kitchener.Playing an important part in the design team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is a team player with the ability to receive and execute instructions from the Lead Mechanical Engineer or Project Manager with minimal supervision. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also provide guidance and delegate to junior or intermediate engineering staff.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESStrong experience with all phases of design including concept design, design development, working drawings, tendering, and contract administrationSolid experience presenting design concepts and mechanical contract documents to client, consultants, and project stakeholdersStrong understanding of local building codes and design standards (i.e. OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA, ANSI, ASME)Experience designing & coordinating sustainable MEP systems (i.e. geothermal, central air-source heat pump, water-to-water heat pump, VRF, Solar PV)Prepare Agendas, lead client and stakeholder meetingsManage project budgets, schedules, and resourcesMaintain effective communication with clients, contractors and authorities having jurisdictionEstablish and maintain project criteria and communicate it to project teamsWork directly with and support Senior team members along with overseeing and directing junior/intermediate members of the production/engineering teamPrepare contract documents, schedules, details and sketches from conceptual design, through to tender and constructionEnsure CAD/Revit Standards, Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures are followed during drawing planning and productionComprehensive working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and industry standardsAbility to apply prescriptive requirements of mechanical building services engineering codes with minimal supervision Strong experience in planning and managing projects, preparation of materials, cost/timing estimates, reporting and producing high level schematics/specificationsWork to and meet project timelines and assist in developing and meeting project budgetsCo-ordinate project requirements with all team members both internal and external disciplinesSupport Construction Administration personnel including field reviews and co-ordination, review and issuance of Change Orders, Clarifications, review shop drawings and RFI responses on an occasional or as required basisDEMONSTRATE ABILITY TO:Excel in a team environment and demonstrate team leadership including ability to manage a team to produce successful design and construction projectsDemonstrate high initiative and be self-motivatedDeliver design excellence: meet/exceed project success criteria Demonstrate a basic understanding of sustainable design practices/processesWork on multiple projects simultaneously Provide quality documents with the direction and guidance of senior team membersBe receptive to feedback to optimize professional growth and contribution Demonstrate an ability to be coachable and display a team-orientated attitudeWork in an environment by sharing, collaborating, and assisting others Engage in self-initiated learning and professional development Reflect the company mission vision and values and contribute positively to the company cultureEDUCATION / LICENSING / CERTIFICATION Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related fieldProject Portfolio to demonstrate CAD and Revit experience and capabilitiesDrivers LicensePROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 10+ years experienceStrong proficiency with AutoCAD, BIM (Revit) MEP, engineering software, MS Office including word and excelExperience writing technical reports, working on healthcare and laboratory projectsEnergy modeling experience will be considered an assetPossess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to participate in business developmentExperience in complex systems design such as laboratories, healthcare, institutional, and civic projects would be considered an assetDetailed understanding and experience in the design of HVAC, Hydronic systems, plumbing systems, fire protection systems and medical gases within all typologies but specifically within institutional, healthcare, and laboratory projects.Detailed understanding of sustainable and LEED concepts, applications and related certification programs (NetZero) would be considered an asset.Experience with energy modelling software such as IES, eQuest, and RETscreen would be considered an assetAbility to support the CA process collaborating with team members to issues the required paperworkAs part of the hiring process, please take the Behavioural Assessment using the link below:
