THE ROLE The Dance Instructor plans, organizes and delivers classes and prepares class schedules. The Dance Instructor assists in the design of recreational programs and implements changes as required, and they assist with advertising and public relations information, as required. The Dance Instructor will instruct and lead dance classes for different ages and ability levels, while ensuring safety for participants and providing emergency or first aid assistance as required, reporting incidents and taking corrective action where required. The Dance Instructor will set up and take down necessary equipment for each class. The Dance Instructor will be responsible for the administration of the dance program, including registration of participants, collecting fees, monitoring & recording attendance, preparing distributing and submitting evaluation forms for all class participants. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED Qualifications High school diploma AND some years experience conducting dance classes AND Specialty Dance Instructors Certificate or equivalent Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications Experience In planning, organizing, and delivering dance classes In monitoring and controlling large groups of participants In ensuring safety protocols and procedures In using software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, e-mail and Internet browsing Knowledge of instructional techniques, behaviour management, participant development, health and safety practices, Injury prevention, adaptive recreation techniques Competencies, Skills and Abilities Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.
