This includes current and future programs, business development, budgeting, portfolio optimization, economic evaluations, and acquisition of new exploration opportunities, with a focus on expanding reserves and resources around existing assets. Creative, self-motivated, and a disciplined approach to execution Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and judgement skills Willingness and ability to adapt to the rapid business and organizational changes Position Description: The Senior Director, Exploration and Geology plays a critical role in the future growth and success of the company. The key responsibilities and challenges to the position include: Responsibilities: Ensure that all exploration and geological activities are conducted according to industry best practices and aligned with Companys Health and Safety Standards. Ensuring Safety above all else, and help drive a safe work culture throughout Andean. In cooperation with the mine management teams, develop strategies to support and optimize existing operations and projects. Establish the exploration vision, strategy and annual objectives and budgets for corporate exploration initiatives and projects. Define short- and long-term exploration targets, objectives and plans for the exploration function at each mine site in conjunction with the mine site geologists. Lead geologists from all operations and exploration projects to design and optimize exploration workflows, drilling programs, mineral resource models, and geological reconciliation. Oversee systems for measuring exploration operational performance against targets, and design and implement corrective action to address variances. Provide high level technical exploration and geological expertise to mine site Geologist, to help determine solutions to technical and other operational difficulties and to keep the exploration programs on track. Provide guidance and expertise to mine site Geologist, with interpreting and analyzing the results of drilling and other geological and geotechnical information, to determine current and future exploration targets, and evaluations of mining reserves/resources in the areas under exploration. Provide expertise into mining feasibility investigations and the development of recommendations to operational management on short- and long-term mining strategy. Ensure that all geological activities including surface and/or underground geological mapping, core logging, and 3D geological modelling are carried out following industry best practices. Support mineral resource models for operations and development projects to ensure that the reported resources and reserves are estimated in alignment with industry regulations. Pro-actively seek investment opportunities in gold and silver exploration projects; evaluate potential acquisitions at grassroots, or more advanced stages; and develop meaningful working relationships with junior mining companies. Participate in the negotiation of Andean Precious Metals joint ventures and mergers; lead the exploration due diligence and geological technical assessment initiatives in M&A situations; work closely with Andean Precious Metals Senior Management Team and relevant consultants. Continually seek out technological advancements to better execute exploration, development, and all related geological activities. Attract and retain top exploration talent and effectively manage the team. Build capacity and bench-strength in the function, with consideration of grooming succession potential from within the organization. Qualifications and Skills: Minimum Bachelors degree in geology, preferably post graduate degree in a geology related field. 15+ years working experience in the mining and exploration industry, with exposure to various deposit styles and commodities. Knowledgeable of global gold and silver deposits preferably in the Americas. Experience evaluating large mineralized systems with the understanding of critical factors that make a deposit economically viable. Deep understanding of structural controls on gold and silver mineralization and applications to exploration and mineral resource estimation. Ability to communicate complex problems clearly both in writing and orally, and possess good presentation skills. Proven coaching experience and strong leadership skills. Flexibility to travel as required to operating mines and development projects, sometimes on short notice. Qualify Professional Geoscientist to sign as QP on Technical Reports. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to influence, leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Spanish speaker is a plus.
