Your Position & How You Will Contribute: Working out of our Newmarket tech center reporting to the Manager, Network Engineering, the Network Implementation Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the Service Provider network. Working closely with Field Operations, Construction, and Design Teams, you will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and improving telecommunications infrastructure, including points-of-presence (POPs), co-locations, and interconnects including the routing, optical transmission and server. This position combines hands-on technical work with strategic responsibilities, including concept-to-proof lab work for new physical and logical network topologies, maintaining deployed high availability topologies, activities that help reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), and enhancing the overall efficiency and accessibility of technical information. Your contributions will directly support the companys objectives by delivering a robust network that differentiates our value proposition and ensures high availability for our customers. Responsibilities & Key Duties include: Network Deployment and Maintenance Complete Outside Plant (OSP) activities to reduce MTTR, increase capacity, and improve network reliability, accessibility, and availability. Deploy and maintain service points-of-presence (POPs), co-locations, and interconnects, including: Installation of active and passive equipment into racks/cabinets. DC wiring and battery backup installations. Fiber cabling, splitting, and Ethernet termination for management networks. Ensuring general cleanliness and structured cabling to facilitate high availability. Network Design and Implementation Design and implement physical and logical network topologies to meet the needs of a modern service provider, including: Optical transport/WDM networks. Passive Optical Network (PON) elements, including splitters and power budgets. Security and server infrastructure. Incident Response and Operations Rapidly respond to incidents, including during off-hours, to minimize network downtime. Drive to remote locations and perform maintenance or repairs as required. Operate hand and power tools for installations and maintenance. Handle and lift equipment weighing over 20 lbs. Collaboration and Ownership Work closely with Field Operations, Construction, and Design Teams to align with company objectives and ensure project success. Share ownership of the networks role in achieving company goals, with a commitment to delivering value-added services that differentiate the company. Documentation and Reporting Prepare and maintain formal documents such as Lab Reports and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring steps are clearly itemized and contingencies considered. Develop reports and maintain detailed records of network deployments, upgrades, and maintenance activities. Education: EE/CompSci grad: Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), or a related field. Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Networking, or Security, or equivalent work experience. Experience: 3-5 years of experience in telecommunications, OSP engineering, or network maintenance roles. Hands-on experience with Juniper hardware an asset. Experience with Linux servers and security platforms an asset. Hands-on Experience working in telecommunications shelters, data centers, or similar environments, including racking and cable management. Certifications such as: o Networking Certifications: JNCIA, CCNA, CompTIA (or higher) (preferred). o Fiber Certifications: FOA CFOT or other test and measurement certifications (preferred). Experience in the Canadian telecommunications industry is a significant asset. Valid drivers license and ability to travel to remote locations as required.
