The Community Engagement and Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development, coordination, and implementation of programs that work to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) and promote awareness and advocacy, as well as support survivors. This individual will work closely with various community groups, service providers, GBV sector workers, the private sector, journalists, and other stakeholders to prevent different forms of gender-based violence, create a safer environment for survivors, and mobilize resources and support for GBV-related initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for intersectional feminism and ending gender-based violence, as well as strong communication skills and the ability to connect with diverse community members.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Community Engagement:Build and maintain relationships with local community groups, service providers, advocacy organizations, and survivors of gender-based violence.Lead and facilitate outreach initiatives to raise awareness of gender-based violence issues, resources, and support available.Organize and lead community events, workshops, training sessions, and informational campaigns on gender-based violence prevention, resources, and support systems.Act as a liaison between the organization and the community, ensuring that survivor voices are heard, respected, and incorporated into program development.Program Coordination and Management:Design, implement, and oversee community-based programs and initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to gender-based violence, including outreach programs, support groups, and education campaigns.Monitor program activities, ensuring they are implemented according to timelines and budgets.Track and report on program outcomes and evaluations, ensuring that programs meet the organizations objectives and goals.Collaborate with the team to develop and adapt programs to meet the evolving needs of survivors and communities impacted by gender-based violence.Ensure that programs are trauma-informed and culturally competent, respecting the diversity and experiences of survivors.Advocacy and Awareness:Advocate for survivors of gender-based violence and GBV prevention by engaging with policymakers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to address systemic issues and promote policy changes.Represent the organization at community meetings, conferences, and public forums to increase visibility and advocate for gender-based violence awareness and prevention.Collaborate with local authorities, service providers, and community leaders to promote coordinated responses to GBV and ensure survivors have access to necessary services and support.Collaboration and Partnership Building:Foster partnerships with local service providers, including shelters, legal services, healthcare providers, and mental health professionals, to create a comprehensive support network for survivors and for GBV prevention.Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders and key stakeholders to ensure that programs and services are accessible to all members of the community.Work with donors, partners, and funders to raise awareness and secure resources for GBV-related initiatives.Training and Capacity Building:Provide training and capacity-building sessions for community members, volunteers, staff, service providers, and other organizations on topics related to gender-based violence and human trafficking, including prevention, survivor support, and referral systems.Create and maintain resources and toolkits for community engagement, program implementation, and survivor support services.Support the professional development of staff and volunteers involved in GBV prevention and intervention programs.Reporting and Evaluation:Collect data and assess the effectiveness of community engagement efforts and programs, making adjustments as needed.Prepare regular reports on program progress, challenges, and outcomes to share with leadership, funders, and stakeholders.Ensure compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and legal standards.Survivor Support:Although this role is not a frontline/direct support role, the incumbent will periodically be required to provide trauma-informed support for survivors of gender-based violence at community events, consultations, training workshops, court support dates, etc., as well as provide warm referrals to services and resources for survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking.REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:Education or work experience in Social Work, Gender Studies, Social Justice, Public Health, or a related field.At least 2-3 years of experience in community engagement and/or program coordination in the gender-based violence sector.Knowledge of gender-based violence issues, including intimate partner violence, femicide, sex trafficking, sexual violence, tech-facilitated violence, and more.Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and intersectional feminism.Tech-Savvy:Proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, etc.) and project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana, etc.).Familiarity with data management and reporting software to track community engagement and program activities.Comfortable with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, or MS Teams for online training, workshops, and meetings.Ability to use social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for community engagement and awareness campaigns, as well as proficiency with Canva and WordPress.Outgoing Personality and Public Speaking:An outgoing and engaging personality, with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Strong public speaking skills, with experience in delivering presentations and facilitating workshops or training sessions.Comfortable leading discussions and presenting in front of groups of various sizes, from small community meetings to large public events.Confidence in representing the organization in external forums, advocating for gender-based violence prevention, and supporting survivors.Professionalism and Interpersonal Skills:Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively raise awareness of key issues surrounding gender-based violence at local, regional, and national levels.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with local community resources, networks, and key stakeholders in the gender-based violence sector.Experience working with marginalized populations, including women, racialized groups, migrants, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, Indigenous communities, survivors of violence, etc.Knowledge of fundraising and resource development strategies for community programs.Experience with crisis response or direct service provision for survivors of gender-based
