For 36 years, innovation has been in TORLYS DNA.TORLYS is currently hiring for the exciting role of Contract (or Consultant) VP Operations in Mississauga, Ontario.Contract Length: 6 to 9 monthsOverview:This senior executive is responsible for strategic planning and direction of the Operations functions of the company. The VP of Operations provides leadership and direction to the Warehouse/Distribution, Purchasing & Logistics departments and their corresponding programs. Responsibilities include setting goals, monitoring work, and evaluating results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and requirements are met and fulfill the companys overall strategic priorities. The VP of Operations serves as a temporary member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) charged with the responsibility of participating in the determination of the companys overall business plan and strategic direction.Core Skills/Competencies:Adaptability/FlexibilityDependableKnowledge of Inventory ManagementProblem Solving SkillsKnowledge of LogisticsERP ImplementationsLeadershipSix Sigma CertifiedProcess ImprovementAttention to DetailResults FocusedStrong Communication (verbal and written)Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Leadership and Management Directs all aspects of effective operations management (Warehousing/Distribution and Facilities, Purchasing and Logistics). Leads and coaches a team of Directors, Managers, Supervisors and indirect TeamMates ensuring the selection and maintenance of qualified personnel and the delivery of high performance standards intra-departmentally and cross-departmentally. Maintains appropriate communications within areas of responsibility and keeps associates informed as to company/department plans and progress. Participates as an ELT Committee member, providing input and discussion to the various topics and assists in arriving at final decisions. Keeps TORLYS vision and values at the forefront of employee decision-making and action.Strategic Planning/Lean Six Sigma Defines and recommends objectives in each area of Operations. Develops specific organizational plans and programs that are aligned with the companys vision and direction. Develops and recommends Operations Lean Six Sigma practices within the organization. Analyze operational processes, the market and competition, to identify external threats and opportunities, adapting the operations strategy to changing conditions with a focus on constant never-ending improvement. Directs, monitors and appraises the performance of each business function under direct responsibility. Responsible for the development and management of the annual operating and capital budgets within areas of responsibility.Warehousing & Facilities Oversees the Warehouse and Facilities management function & activities including but not limited to warehouse design and layout (2 warehouse facilities), inbound/outbound as well as inter-branch transfer of goods, general facility maintenance and security, etc. Oversees and directs all logistics service level arrangements balancing the companys interests in cost efficiency while maintaining established business practices and standards. Ensures corporate as well as legislated health and safety standards are maintained in each managed facility. Oversees warehouse systems, practices and standards and directs innovative initiatives to enhance internal efficiency and productivity.Purchasing & Logistics Develops and directs the strategic direction of purchasing and inventory management practices. Oversees purchasing and inventory management systems, practices and standards. Determine procurement strategies and successfully coordinate and negotiate purchase and freight agreements to secure competitive rates, ensuring timely delivery of shipments while also managing operational issues and compliance with regulations.Qualifications: Minimum 15 years related Operations management experience Bachelor's Degree in Business, with a master's degree or MBA preferred. Six Sigma certification, black-belt preferred. Experience in managing areas such as Warehousing, Facilities, Logistics (Freight) & Purchasing. Solid knowledge and understanding of the business processes and operations. Ability to think strategically and plan effectively Excellent communication skills (written/verbal) Proven leadership ability. Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities. Participative management type -- advocates team concept Ability to establish credibility and be decisive -- but able to recognize and support the organizations preferences and priorities. Results oriented with the ability to balance other business considerations. Is highly computer literate, understanding of AI in business an asset. Strong negotiating skills and capacity. Ability to set policies, but remain flexible when customer conditions require Proven track record of developing and effectively implementing operational strategies, business plans, forecasts and budgets, and achieving results. Hands-on experience in leading an operational team. Experience in establishing and building strong collaborative business partnerships within complex organizations. In-depth knowledge and experience implementing operational & IS strategies. Experience in creating and sustaining strong profitability and business results within a successful organization in the flooring industry. Proven ability to recruit, train and motivate TeamMates in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth. Valid drivers license and use of own vehicle required to perform the job.Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Hybrid Remote (3 days in office, 2 days remote) Standard office environment.Direct Reports: This role has two direct reports, Director of Warehouse Operations & Director of Purchasing/Logistics.
