Please see details below.The Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR) is seeking candidates for several positions on its voluntary Board of Directors, beginning in September 2025. Directors serve two-year terms.About CCHR:CCHR is Canadas leading not-for-profit charity in advancing the right to housing through advocacy, education, and empowerment.At CCHR:We advance the right to housing for all: Since 1987, CCHR has been at the forefront of national and international discussions to advance the right to housing, earning widespread respect for its work. We believe that by working with partners and communities across the country, our research, advocacy, and strategic litigation can influence the development of progressive, rights-based housing policy.We transform lives through education and empowerment: CCHR reaches thousands of individuals, service providers, and housing providers across Canada each year, informing them about the right to housing and what they can do to advance it. We believe in the transformative power of education and empowerment and know that understanding rights and how to activate them is a necessary first step to building a culture of human rights in housing.We speak up when we see injustice: CCHR fights for the right to housing across Canada by advocating unapologetically on behalf of the people and communities we serve. We bring attention to the issues of housing injustice and believe in the power of human rights law and rights-based advocacy to advance housing justice for all.Board of Directors SearchCCHR is currently recruiting qualified and committed Board members willing to contribute their time and expertise to our dynamic and dedicated team. As an organization, CCHR is expanding its strategic focus and adapting to meet the demands of housing rights head-on.Professional SkillsCCHR is prioritizing candidates who are excited to take on leadership roles within the Board and have experience in one of the following areas: Finance(CPA) Fundraising /Major Gifts Marketing / CommunicationsGeneral SkillsIn addition to the above professional skills, CCHR welcomes candidates who demonstrate: A strong interest in CCHRs mission and objectives A prior track record of dedication to board work A commitment to supporting CCHRs fundraising activities Knowledge of board governance Financial acuityDiversityAt CCHR, we believe that a Board of Directors that reflects the diversity of the clients and communities we serve strengthens our ability to achieve our mission. As an organization that recently expanded to a national mandate following a long history of working in Ontario, we particularly welcome applications from candidates in other provinces and territories.CommitmentCCHRs Board meets 5 - 6 times per year with two standing committees Governance and Finance that meet quarterly. The board takes a break in July and August, and the Annual General Meeting is held in September.Board meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month for about 2.5 hours via video and audio conferencing.Directors serve on one of CCHRs standing committees and contribute to ad hoc committees that are formed on an as-needed basis from time to time. They are also expected to contribute to CCHRs fundraising initiatives and draw upon their networks in support of the organizations work.The total average monthly time commitment is 5 - 10 hours, depending on a Directors position.
