Job Description

About the RoleWe are recruiting a Scientist specializing in Vapour Cell Fabrication and Engineering on behalf of an advanced Quantum Technology R&D organization based in Ontario, Canada. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge quantum sensing technologies, including Rydberg atom-based RF sensors that leverage the unique properties of atomic vapour cells for high-precision measurements. In this role, you will be at the forefront of vapour cell design and fabrication, working in a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and material scientists. The focus is on engineering next-generation vapour cells to enable accurate, distortion-free radio frequency field measurements critical for quantum metrology, communications, and radar applications.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design, fabrication, and testing of advanced vapour cells for quantum sensing applicationsApply MEMS fabrication techniques, including wafer bonding, surface preparation, and vapor cell assemblyDevelop and implement novel bonding schemes and coatings to improve vapour cell performanceUtilize metamaterial principles and photonic crystal concepts to minimize RF scattering and optimize field uniformity within vapour cellsCharacterize vapour cell properties, including RF scattering cross-sections, field uniformity, and Stark shift mappingCollaborate with cross-functional teams in surface science, RF testing, and optics to integrate vapour cells into Rydberg atom-based RF sensorsOperate and maintain fabrication equipment within a state-of-the-art MEMS facility, including coating and bonding toolsContribute to ongoing R&D efforts to enhance the sensitivity and accuracy of RF quantum sensors through vapour cell innovationRequired QualificationsPhD or equivalent industry experience in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related fieldProven expertise in vapour cell design and fabrication, particularly for quantum sensing or atomic physics applicationsHands-on experience in MEMS fabrication techniques: wafer bonding, surface chemistry, microfabrication, and thin-film coatingsUnderstanding of RF field interaction with dielectric materials, particularly in high-precision or metrology contextsFamiliarity with metamaterials, photonic crystal structures, and their application to RF field manipulation is highly desirableDemonstrated ability to design, simulate, and characterize vapour cells, including measurements of RF field distribution and scattering cross-sectionsStrong problem-solving skills with a passion for application-driven researchExcellent communication and teamwork abilities; experience working in multidisciplinary teamsWhats On OfferCompetitive compensation and benefits packageWork in a state-of-the-art MEMS fabrication facility and quantum optics/RF test labsBe part of Canadas growing quantum technology ecosystemA collaborative, high-impact environment where innovative ideas and problem-solving are encouragedBased in Ontario, offering access to a vibrant community, innovation hub, and world-class research institutionsFollowing your application Chris Green, a specialist recruiter will discuss the opportunity with you in detail. Chris will be more than happy to answer any questions relating to the industry and the potential for your career growth. The conversation can also progress further to discussing other opportunities, which are also available right now or will be imminently becoming available. This position has been highly popular, and is likely that it will close shortly.
