CHILD & YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER - ABBOTSFORD, BC Job Overview The Child & Youth Support Worker plays a vital role in caring for, supporting, and guiding children and youth in various settings, including schools, community centers, and recreational programs. This position focuses on fostering a safe, nurturing, and positive environment where children and youth can thrive, learn, and develop essential life skills. The ideal candidate will provide mentorship, education, personal care, and emotional support, ensuring each childs unique needs are met with compassion and understanding. Duties & Responsibilities Provide direct care, support, and supervision to children and youth, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Assist with personal care tasks, including peri care, as needed, ensuring dignity and respect in all interactions. Develop and implement engaging educational programs that promote personal growth, independence, and social skills. Offer one-on-one guidance to children, helping them navigate challenges and build confidence. Facilitate group activities that encourage teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all participants, ensuring adherence to child safety and protection protocols. Collaborate with parents, caregivers, educators, and community organizations to create a strong network of support. Monitor the progress of each child and youth, adapting care and strategies to meet diverse needs. Document interactions and progress reports as required for program evaluation and child development tracking. Skills & Qualifications Strong ability to care for and educate children and youth on various topics, including life skills, conflict resolution, and personal development. Experience working directly with children in caregiving, educational, or recreational settings is an asset. Familiarity with supporting children and youth with disabilities, including assistance with personal care tasks such as peri care, is desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with legible penmanship. Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with children while maintaining professional boundaries. Strong organizational skills to balance multiple responsibilities while ensuring high-quality care and support. Requirements: MCFD HUB clearance provided by agency Class 5 Drivers License and a clean Drivers Abstract. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be physically capable of activities such as walking, hiking, and lifting children. Preferred Qualifications: FoodSafe Certification/Caring about Food Safety First Aid / CPR C Certification Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training or equivalent. Certificate in a related human/social services field. Understanding of Canadas history with Indigenous people and its impact on families. A minimum of 1 year of related experience or a combination of education, training, and experience. Why work with us?
