IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim HR Director Compensation project Reports To: Principal Duration: 6 Months Location: Toronto Virtual with occasional onsite Our client is a well-known and high profile Canadian higher educational institution. They are looking to augment their team with an experienced HR professional who has project and compensation experience as they embark on a transformation. In this assignment you will collaborate directly with the executive team as a subject matter expert advising and executing on a modernization of their structure and a standardization of roles. Key Accountabilities: Work with external council, the permanent HR Director, Principal and other key stakeholders to quarterback the compensation project and ensure it successful completion. Lead a project to create 6 new management roles across 2 divisions. Study the collective agreement and ensure the transfer of union to non-union roles is well documented, researched and as in line with the contract. Conduct a risk assessment exercise covering the scope of the project. Work closely with the union to ensure they are aligned with this approach and reduce the likelihood of grievances. Leveraging the input of organizational leaders, and market data, help design the compensation strategy to support the project. Provides strategic expertise, advice and guidance to Human Resources, Academic leaders, and colleagues on all aspects of clients total compensation and workforce planning strategy, programs and plans including the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, collective agreements, and policies. Lead a project to review all job descriptions ensuring they are consistent across the organization and reflect the scope of the roles effectively. Assesses the job evaluation of executive, management, and unionized positions, including providing direction and support to management and colleagues on the job description writing process, facilitation of job evaluation committees and final determination of evaluations of all positions utilizing multiple executive, management and unionized job evaluation structures, guidelines, and systems. Develop a range of reports and summary analyses on compensation including trends, cost projections in support of planning, Board presentations, government submissions, collective bargaining, and/or corporate budgeting purposes. Monitor and analyze key recruitment metrics such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and quality of hire, using data insights to continually refine and improve recruitment processes. Leads the analysis and resolution of complex compensation issues with the HR Team, clients and participates, as required to resolve related grievances. Administers salary structure and compensation plan, ensuring compliance with relevant legislative authorities, Collective Agreements, and applicable policies. Develops workforce demographic profiles and analyses outlining risks, impacts, issues, trends, and projections to support the assessment of current and future capacity for service delivery in areas such as: staff strength, vacancy management, succession planning, talent management, retirement projections etc. Competencies and Requirements: Knowledge and expertise in human resource theories, principles, and best practices with a focus on workforce planning, reporting, compensation, total rewards, and recruitment. Experience working in complex unionized environments. CCP designation is an asset. Strong leadership and deep analytical/technical skills with the ability to roll up sleeves and do hands-on work. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
