Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.Role overviewThe Traffic Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal traffic laws and OH&S regulations while overseeing all traffic management activities on-site. This includes the development, implementation, and supervision of Traffic Control Plans (TCPs), coordination with contractors, and maintaining authority over traffic control personnel. The Traffic Manager serves as the primary liaison with municipalities, transit providers, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), and the Contracting Authority to ensure seamless traffic operations. They are responsible for monitoring site traffic conditions, queue lengths, transit travel times, responding to incidents, and documenting all traffic control measures.Roles and ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal traffic laws and OH&S regulations.Develop, implement, and supervise Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) in the field.Oversee and direct all traffic control operations on-site and ensure proper coordination with contractors.Maintain authority over Project Cos traffic control personnel and procedures.Act as the primary liaison with municipalities, transit providers, MTO, and the Contracting Authority for traffic management.Co-chair with the CA, the Transportation Management Committee and provide updates on traffic-related challenges.Monitor queue lengths at active sites and implement measures to reduce congestion.Track transit travel times and raise operational performance issues.Respond to traffic-related incidents caused by construction activities and document all major incidents within 48 hours.Ensure proper documentation of all lane closures, detours, lane shifts, and unauthorized traffic disruptions.Supervise traffic control personnel during all construction activities requiring a Traffic Control Plan (TCP).Ensure on-call availability with a Traffic Control Supervisor or alternate able to respond within 30 minutes when required.Attend and actively participate in traffic management and project coordination meetings.Skills and QualificationsBSc in Civil Engineering, Degree or Diploma in Construction, Traffic Management, or a related field.3-5 years of experience in construction traffic management.Strong knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manual (Book 7), Highway Traffic Act, and OH&S regulations.Experience in designing and implementing Traffic Control Plans (TCPs).Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.Ability to work in fast-paced environments and under pressure.Valid Ontario Drivers License.Ability to work scheduled shifts during daytime and nighttime and be on-call as needed.Ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules, and step-by-step action plans.Strong team leadership and personnel management skills.Familiarity with municipal and provincial agency coordination for traffic planning.WORK ENVIRONMENTAt WeBuild, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture that promotes gender equity and the recruitment of under-represented groups at all levels of our workforce.
