The Opportunity:Our client, a manufacturing organization in the GTA, has partnered with ML6 in their search for a Power Electronics Design Engineer to join their team! In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of magnetic components, including those used in passive filters, reactors, inductors, low-voltage transformers, and other electrical equipment. Additionally, the role involves designing electrical control, distribution, and metering system equipment. The Design Engineer has a deep understanding of power-electronic equipment, harmonics, variable speed drives, and power systems.What You'll Be Doing:Design magnetics components for specialty electromagnetic devices for power quality and energy efficiency applications. Products include: Harmonic mitigating transformers and autotransformers. Passive and Active Harmonic filters, Sinewave Filters, dV/dT filters, Common-mode chokes, 1- or 3-phase multiple windings air-core and iron-core reactors with non, single or multiple non-magnetic gaps.Develop and leverage computer aided modeling and simulation methods for design trade-off analysis, including finite element analysisMonitor external technology developments related to power electronics and magnetics design tools and advise management on opportunities and risks.Design of electrical control equipment, including the creation of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.Assist and lead R&D efforts as required.Introduction of new materials and methods in product design.Development and improvement of procedures for proper testing of magnetic products.Analysis of the manufacturing process and assistance to manufacturing for continuous improvement.Collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure new designs incorporate standard practices for ease of manufacturability.Assistance to Manufacturing Engineering for troubleshooting of magnetic device assembly issues.Strives to identify cost savings for the organization.Assistance to Technical Sales Support for customer inquiries regarding magnetic devices.Adhere to ISO9001-2015 standards and requirements that pertain to all aspects of your job responsibilities.What You'll Need to Be Successful:Post Secondary education in Electrical / Electronics Engineering6+ years of experience in electrical design and magnetics engineeringFamiliarity with transformer manufacturing processes and productionSkills in electro-magnetic field simulations is required, and familiarity with JMAG, COMSOL, ANSYSDemonstrated leadership and mentorship skillsWorking knowledge of design process/quality tools including DFMEA, DFM, PPAPSpecial skill sets include in depth knowledge of industry standards (such as IEEE, UL, CSA, NEMA, NEC, ANSI) and others
