Assistant Director of Facilities Management FULL-TIME PERMANENT Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities Management and within the guidelines and policies established by the Board of Trustees, the Assistant Director of Facilities Management will help oversee the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of all division facilities. We are looking for a strategic leader with a passion for facilities that not only operate efficiently but also look their best to create a positive environment for students and staff. This role requires a commitment to both functionality and aesthetics, ensuring our spaces are well-maintained, welcoming, and conducive to learning. The Assistant Director of Facilities Management is responsible for, but not limited to: Personnel Management: Provide leadership and daily direction to a diverse team, including tradespeople, custodians, and Facilities personnel. Oversee recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and professional development to ensure a high- performing workforce. Foster a positive work environment that prioritizes collaboration, accountability, and staff well-being. Collaborate with union representatives, ensuring adherence to collective agreements and promoting harmonious labor relations. Operations Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Management department to maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning school environment. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards. Address and resolve operational challenges in a timely and effective manner. Project Management: Lead and oversee capital projects, including renovations, maintenance programs, and new construction. Collaborate with the Director on the planning and coordination of contracted construction projects with internal stakeholders (school leaders, parent advisory groups) including contractors, the province (CPPD & EECL) to monitor progress and maintain quality standards. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with divisional goals. Work closely with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to monitor progress and maintain quality standards. Act as an owner representative for community consultation processes, zoning applications, and permit approvals. Strategic Planning and Budgeting: Collaborate with the Director to create short- and long-term capital plans, and standardized processes that will develop and maintain the division''s buildings and grounds with the Division''s overall objectives. Contribute to the visioning and strategic planning for the Facilities Management department, aligning with the Division''s overall objectives. Assist in developing and managing the department''s annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource optimization. Identify and pursue opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies. Leadership and Collaboration: Serve as a key member of WSD''s senior leadership team, collaborating on division-wide initiatives and long- term planning. Act as a liaison between the Facilities Management department and other departments to ensure alignment and effective communication. Represent the department at internal and external meetings, promoting the Division''s goals and interests. Qualifications A post-secondary degree or diploma in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered. A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in facilities management, operations, or a similar role. Demonstrated ability to manage large teams, including tradespeople and custodial staff, with a focus on engagement and performance excellence. Strong knowledge of project management principles, building systems, and regulatory compliance. Experience working in unionized environments and with collective agreements. Exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in budgeting and financial management. Additional Requirements Knowledge of the education sector and public-sector facilities management is an asset. Valid driver''s license and ability to travel between school sites as needed.
