Job Description

Tyr LLP is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to join our growing team. The position can be in person or hybrid. Tyr LLP is Toronto-based elite litigation firm. Tyr LLP specializes in advocacy and maintains a varied litigation practice with expertise in commercial litigation, class actions, arbitrations, securities, intellectual property disputes and complex medical malpractice claims. We are looking for individuals who take initiative, are collaborative, professional, adaptable and posses a strong work ethic. Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Drafting and/or preparing various correspondence and legal documents (such as pleadings, motion records, pre-trial/mediation memos; consent and dismissal orders, document briefs etc.); Arranging for service and filing of court documents in accordance with Civil Court practices, including filing on the JSO Portal and uploading to CaseLines; Managing and tracking deadlines, including maintaining file organization; Supporting lawyers and law clerks with the discovery process, on appeals and in trials. The successful candidate should posses the following: 2-3 years experience working in a litigation environment; Completion of a post secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk course or equivalent work experience; Thorough knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, legal documentation and terminology; Eagerness to learn and further develop skills, especially working towards a paperless environment; Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment; Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion and use good judgment; Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks; Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; Strong attention to detail; Capable of working within tight timelines while also being able to reassess and shift priorities as needed; Advanced technology skills including Adobe Pro, Excel, Word etc.; Familiarity with tablet devices, cloud-based servers and sharefile platforms a plus.
