Job Description

Position Title: Health & Safety Advisor Location: Carseland, Alberta Employment type : 12 month contract with potential to turn into permanent, full-time. Position Summary The Health & Safety Advisor plays a pivotal role in promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture across assigned plants and yards. This position ensures compliance with company policies, client requirements, and government legislation. As a hands-on operations role, the Advisor will lead by example, providing balanced and practical safety solutions to operational challenges while supporting a safe working environment. Key Responsibilities Health and Safety Management: Maintain safety standards by tracking and investigating incidents, compiling statistics, and implementing preventive measures. Oversee onboarding and safety training for new hires, ensuring all training aligns with company standards. Co-chair safety committees across assigned plants and yards, maintaining accurate records of meeting minutes. Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Lead Workplace Harassment and Bullying training sessions for all locations. Provide guidance to plant management and employees on safe work practices and job procedures. Keep safety manuals updated. Compliance and Monitoring: Monitor and communicate updates to Workers Compensation Board regulations and ensure regional compliance. Assist Human Resources and Plant Managers in tracking and addressing Workers Compensation Board claims. Maintain Safety Data Sheets and the WSIB Certificate and COI database for all regional facilities. Support operations in organizing and leading safety meetings, toolbox talks, and the development of safety programs, procedures, and standards. Evaluation and Reporting: Inspect, audit, and evaluate workplace conditions, equipment, and health and safety programs. Prepare and deliver reports, including recommendations for improving safety practices. Stay informed by attending relevant safety training sessions and seminars. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety within a manufacturing environment. Post-secondary education in Health and Safety or a combination of education and experience. Train-the-Trainer certification is an asset. CRSP designation in good standing is an asset. Valid Drivers License. Proficiency in English (spoken and written); French proficiency is an asset. Strong understanding of federal and provincial health and safety regulations. Excellent written communication skills for reporting and information compilation. Ability to manage multiple projects and high-stress situations effectively. Comfortable with public speaking and training facilitation.
