The Position The Program Coordinator is a key role within Electricity Canada, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Ontario Mutual Assistance Group (OnMAG) and supporting two Distribution Council Sub-Committees. The role is approximately 70% focused on OnMAG and 30% on the Distribution Council Sub-Committees, with opportunities for growth, including potential expansion into supporting the CanMAG network. Ontario Mutual Assistance Group (OnMAG) OnMAG is a network of Ontarios electric utilities that collaborate to provide mutual aid during major power outages and emergencies. Under the management of Electricity Canada, the group facilitates the rapid deployment of crews, equipment, and resources between utilities to restore power efficiently. Distribution Council Subcommittees Under the leadership of the Distribution Council, Distribution Subcommittees play a pivotal role in addressing issues of tactical significance to distribution companies in Canada, such as grid reliability and resiliency, operations and planning, regulatory innovation, revenue risks from load defection, and the need to increase customer and stakeholder engagement. The Distribution Council has four committees: Operating Technology and Telecom Committee (OTTC) Metering Technology and Policy Committee (MTPC) Grid Modernization Committee (GMC) Economic Regulation Committee (ERC) This role will support Operating Technology and Telecom Committee (OTTC) and Metering Technology and Policy Committee (MTPC). Key Responsibilities - Mutual Assistance: OnMAG Operations | Emergency Response Coordination | Key Stakeholder Engagement | Relationship Management | Program Development Expected to gain a strong understanding of OnMAG operations, protocols, and key stakeholders within the first 2-3 weeks , including learning activation procedures, hotline management, and emergency coordination processes to ensure readiness for real-time response situations. Serve as the primary coordinator for OnMAG operations, ensuring smooth activation and response processes. Maintain and manage the OnMAG on-call schedule, hotline monitoring, and activation protocols. Lead OnMAG practice drills to assess and enhance emergency readiness. Develop and update OnMAG best practices and procedural guides. Ensure proper onboarding of new members and maintain updated member and contact management software. Monitor and assess weather conditions across Ontario to anticipate potential outage impacts and support proactive response planning. This may include tracking weather alerts and emails during severe weather events to stay informed and prepared. Develop Agendas and other meeting content for quarterly meetings, including coordinating speakers, and preparing necessary materials. Build and maintain relationships with key Mutual Assistance and Distribution stakeholders (ex. OPP, MTO, Ministry of Energy, IESO, etc.) Work closely with OnMAG leadership to enhance engagement and participation. Actively contribute to industry discussions on emergency response, mutual assistance, and best practices. Support the development and implementation of initiatives to expand the reach and impact of OnMAG. Research industry trends and best practices in grid reliability, resiliency, and emergency response to inform committee strategies. Maintain up-to-date records of OnMAG hotline monitoring and committee activities. Prepare reports and documentation summarizing committee discussions, decisions, and action plans. Identify and implement innovative approaches to streamline meeting facilitation and emergency response coordination. Promote and market the OnMAG program by developing outreach campaigns, creating promotional materials, and presenting at conferences and industry events to increase stakeholders'' awareness and engagement. Key Responsibilities - Distribution: Committees Support | Event & Meeting Logistics Provide logistical and administrative support for the Distribution Subcommittees. Organize and coordinate in-person and virtual committee meetings, ensuring smooth execution. Assist in developing committee work plans and tracking key deliverables. Take meeting notes, track action items, and follow up on outstanding tasks. With the assistance of the Electricity Canada Events Team, oversee logistics for in-person workshops and training events. Develop government consultation submissions for the Operating Technology & Telecommunications Committee (OTTC) (e.g., ISED, Public Safety Canada) and the Metering Technology & Policy Committee (MTPC) (e.g., Measurement Canada), ensuring alignment with industry priorities and regulatory requirements. Qualifications College Diploma and/or equivalent experience. Experience in emergency response coordination, mutual assistance, or utility operations is an asset. Strong organizational and program management skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to manage relationships across committees. Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with demonstrated experience in leading projects and engaging stakeholders. Candidates should be prepared to share examples of past projects where they successfully coordinated efforts, managed responsibilities, and fostered collaboration across teams or organizations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, and emergency notification systems (e.g., Everbridge). Strong written and oral communicator. Organized with the ability to work independently while ensuring accuracy and thoroughness. No restrictions on lobbying under the Lobbying Act. Fluent in English. French language competency is considered an asset. Open to travel within Ontario a few times a year. Must be able to work out of the Electricity Canada office for at least two days a week.
