The Position The Executive Director, BC, Child and Family Services is a strategic leadership role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position oversees the daily operations, strategic planning, and development of Taproots child and family services sector across British Columbia. The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in advancing organizational goals, building strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services. This role also involves fostering leadership development, navigating operational challenges, and driving growth opportunities through innovative strategies and partnerships. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Planning Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with organizational objectives. Oversee program development and ensure compliance with agency policies, contracts, and accreditation standards. Identify growth opportunities, including new funding sources and program expansions, while ensuring team readiness to execute strategic initiatives effectively. Operational Oversight Manage the daily operations of $17M of child and family services, including SHSS work, foster care, and outreach programs. Address HR complexities, such as staff burnout, retention, and union negotiations. Ensure compliance with government regulations, legal requirements, and organizational policies. Stakeholder Engagement Act as the primary liaison with government funders, including the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Represent Taproot in sector-related meetings, conferences, and community events. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to support program sustainability and growth. Team Leadership and Development Coach and mentor program directors and managers to achieve operational excellence. Build leadership capacity within the team, ensuring a high-performing and motivated workforce. Provide guidance on program operations and foster a culture of shared accountability. Core Competencies and Skills Strategic Expertise: Proven ability to align organizational priorities with sector needs through innovative strategies. Leadership Impact: Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities to inspire and develop high-performing teams. Sector Knowledge: Deep understanding of child and family services, including foster care, SHSS, and related government contracts. Operational Acumen: Proficiency in managing budgets, analyzing financial data, and navigating complex HR challenges. Relationship Building: Exceptional interpersonal skills to build trust with government funders, staff, and community partners. Adaptability and Resilience: Ability to lead in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and handle sensitive issues with professionalism. Ideal Profile The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with: A bachelors degree in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent experience. At least seven years of management experience in social services or a similar sector. Proven success in strategic planning, program development, and operational oversight. A collaborative and relationship-driven approach to leadership. Familiarity with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and other sector stakeholders. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000 annually, with the potential for an annual bonus. This range is based on market benchmarks and may vary depending on the candidates relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package, which features a defined benefit pension plan and employer-paid benefits.
