Job Description

The company is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the finance team in a hybrid role based in Toronto. The ideal candidate will have proven CPG or retail experience as a team leader with both Canadian and USA reporting experience. This high-stakes role demands a seasoned leader with a proven track record in steering complex financial systems, capable of implementing transformative strategies that drive substantial efficiency, profitability, and scalability. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will make it your mission to develop the finance function within the organization and streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes to improve decision making. Key Responsibilities Financial Stewardship: Oversee all financial functions with a focus on strategic financial planning, robust budgeting, and precise forecasting. Ensure financial strategies support aggressive growth and profitability objectives. Fiscal Reporting: Deliver impeccable financial reporting. Prepare comprehensive financial statements, performance metrics, and insightful analysis for the President, board of directors, and stakeholders. Ensuring on-time accurate reporting within tight deadlines; including month end due the 10th of each month, and year end due March 15th Liquidity Management: Command liquidity and capital allocation. Manage cash flow with precision, oversee investment strategies, and mitigate financial risks effectively. Rigorous Budgeting: Lead the development of detailed budgets and sophisticated financial models. Monitor and drive financial performance against aggressive targets. Internal Controls: Implement a fortress of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Conduct thorough audits and reviews. Talent Cultivation: Identify and nurture top talent within the organization. Provide mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities to cultivate future leaders. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements. Close month ends within 10 days Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity Key Qualifications Bachelors degree in business, accounting, or related field 5-10+ years proven accounting experience (minimum 5 yrs exp) Professional accounting certification USA or Cda Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards Strong understanding of economic and banking processes 5+ years experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes Exemplary history of financial project management Experience improving financial reporting through implementing automation in routine transaction processing through integration with ERP software Experience working in or with large retailers in trade management, deductions or similar that impact expected profitability
