IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim Medical Director Reports To: VP Medical Affairs & Chief of Staff Duration: 6 months Location: Toronto, Ontario Part time 2 days a week leadership advisory role OR Fulltime including 3 days a week in clinic Our client is a leading Canadian academic and teaching hospital who provide specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. They are looking for an experienced psychiatrist to be an advisor, coach and strategic leader to a diverse and talented team. You can either work part time 2 days a week onsite as a pure leader or you can work at our clients location additional days in their clinics to make this a fulltime engagement. Key Accountabilities: Forge positive relationships with key internal partners, including the VP, Medical Affairs & Chief of Staff, Medical Directors, and all Medical Affairs clinical staff. Collaborate on developing a vision, objectives, and human resources plan for Medical Affairs clinical staff. Provide leadership for an evolving and innovative system of patient care and flow. Influence policy and practice development, and health system transformation. Participate in the development and implementation of the organization''s mission, objectives, and strategic plan. Make recommendations regarding medical human resource needs and optimize utilization. Identifies, assesses, and informs the Vice President Medical Affairs & Chief of Staff of internal and external issues that affect the organization, relative to risk, reputation and clinical performance, and resolve these issues. Represent the organization in external partnerships, including local Ontario Health Teams, regional hospitals, primary care organizations, community service providers, and mental health agencies. Leverages knowledge, relationships and resources to accomplish objectives that move the Hospital closer to patient service excellence. Lead efforts to improve regional understanding and integration of care, identifying key gaps. Support high engagement and participation from internal and external stakeholders. Serve on the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) and other committees as assigned. Foster effective teamwork within the organization and beyond. Identify and address internal and external issues affecting the organization, relative to risk, reputation, and clinical performance. Support organizational values, policies, procedures, regulations, and Hospital By-laws. Leverage knowledge and resources to achieve patient service excellence. Ensure appropriate medical human resources for safe, continuous patient care. Advise on the quality of medical care, diagnosis, and treatment provided to patients. Optimize program effectiveness through evaluation, outcome measurement, and quality improvement. Engage physicians in resource utilization to meet community needs. Participate in the development of the Hospitals quality improvement plan and patient safety initiatives. Facilitate participation in research, knowledge translation, and education. Contribute to the development and improvement of policies, procedures, and medical informatics tools. Evaluate and improve resource utilization. Act as a mentor to clinical staff and oversee remediation of skill gaps. Model clinical excellence and encourage a learning environment. Develop medical staff for succession planning. Competencies and Requirements: Licensed for independent medical practice and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Fellowship Certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other certification that is deemed to be equivalent. Eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. Residency or fellowship training or other formal or informal experience in psychiatry. Prior experience in either a formal or informal clinical or academic leadership role. Strategic, collaborative thinker who embraces health system transformation to enhance patient care and experience. Demonstrated expertise in building trust and collaboration within and between organizations, including hospitals and the community. Adaptable to continually changing priorities. Influential, highly relational, and effective in developing partnerships. Excellent human resources management and leadership skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with administration, directors/managers, staff, physicians, interprofessional team members, other healthcare teams, and the community. High level of professional competence as a physician with clinical and leadership experience. Demonstrated values-based decision-making, especially in complex, uncertain, or ambiguous situations. Recognized for championing service excellence and patient safety, providing leadership to an outstanding team, and ensuring patient advocacy and cultural sensitivity.
