Project Opportunity FCC Canada is looking for a Communications & Engagement Lead to join the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations project team Pape North Connect. The Communications & Engagement Lead is responsible for leading the communication and community engagement requirements pertaining to the project agreement by developing comprehensive communication plans and materials, ensuring the public and stakeholders are informed and engaged in a timely manner, and that appropriate action is taken to address complaints, mitigate impacts to residents and businesses, and to effectively communicate such impacts and progress of the project. The role would focus on being accountable for the effective delivery of internal and external communications and maintaining positive and constructive relationships with stakeholders, residents, businesses, media, and the public. Main Responsibilities In collaboration with the client, senior management, and stakeholders, research, plan, develop, and execute communication plans for a specific event, scope of work, and/or for issues management. Working closely with the construction and design team to ensure appropriate flow of information and develop communication materials for print, digital, or social media formats (e.g., fact sheets, construction notices, advertisements, digital/copy writing, presentations, signage, Q&A, community letters). Draft media relations materials including press releases, media responses and statements, and produce media reports and social listening analytics. Collaborate with the client to develop and write editorial content and coordinate photography/video for the project website and social media platforms. Provide strategic direction and recommendations on timing, approaches, and tactics for engaging with stakeholders and the development of meeting materials and any applicable stakeholder engagement processes. Attend and facilitate stakeholder and community meetings, operations meetings, communications working group meetings, and government authority communications meetings to proactively identify activities to be communicated to affected residents or stakeholders and ensure consistency of key messages and meeting objectives are being met. Plan and write communication materials and organize outreach meetings, forums, public information centers, tours, stakeholder meetings, and project milestone events. Work effectively with public and private sector partners to build relationships with various professional associations and stakeholders. Ensure adherence to service standards by effectively mitigating, responding to, and reporting project-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and logging. Respond to public inquiries (in-person, by telephone, or via email) about design and construction activities (including information on construction schedules, transit and traffic impacts, community meetings, etc.) in a timely and efficient manner. Support emergency and crisis communications by drafting required communications materials. In tandem, create a library of best practices for similar projects, on an ongoing basis. Education and Qualifications A postsecondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field or equivalent experience. Minimum of 12 years of communications experience in media relations, crisis communications, issues management, communications marketing, corporate and community relations, and experience in managing a team. Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading direct stakeholder engagement and delivering large projects with multiple stakeholder involvement, especially City of Toronto and TTC. Must have relevant experience with linear projects in a dense urban environment, such as in the transportation, transit, energy, construction, utilities, or infrastructure sectors, managing or engaging with impacted communities. The ideal candidate is a media-trained spokesperson with established relationships with Toronto media. Experience and understanding of working with elected officials and various levels of government is an asset. Possession of a professional business communications designation is an asset. Job Requirements Highly organized with demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple priorities with tight deadlines and meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including superior skills in Excel. Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Customer focused, detail-oriented, responsive, and proactive. Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to interact with tact and diplomacy. Digitally and social media savvy.
