About the Opportunity Some of the Nunavut housing Associations/Authorities are seeking an Oil Burner Mechanic to service and repair oil fired heating systems in Housing Association/Authority residential buildings across Nunavut. The Oil Burner Mechanic works within the maintenance management program and performs related duties as required. About the Job Maintains oil-burners in Housing Association/Authority buildings to ensure a safe and efficient operation by: Inspecting all oil-fired and solid fuel heating systems in Housing Association/Authority buildings to ensure satisfactory operation by: Conducting regular checks of all oil-burners, furnaces, boilers, hot water makers and accessories; Troubleshooting and identifying repairs required to correct deficiencies; Doing annual preventative maintenance and adjusting equipment for optimum efficiency; Cleaning and overhauling all oil-burner and related equipment (fuel pumps, blowers, vents, duct work, etc.) on a regularly scheduled basis; Testing all overhauled and re-built oil-burners to ensure units are safe and in good working order; and Installing new equipment when required; Repairing appliances and re-building components for re-use; and Complete records for all maintenance and repairs by: identifying supplies required and compiling material list; Filling out service requests for all work carried out; identifying inefficient systems and recommending replacement or upgrading. Perform other such duties as: Identifying unsafe and hazardous conditions; Assisting other trades in emergency situations; Supervising and training apprentices and casual staff; Ensuring new apprentices, casuals and students receive safety orientation; and Assisting district technical staff from time to time. About You The skills, qualifications, and abilities needed for this position includes the following: Must have either 4th year apprentice or Journeyperson status in the residential Oil Burner Trade. In-depth knowledge of the B-139 Code and residential heating systems. Air exchanger knowledge and experience would be a definite asset. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking capability. Adept in time management with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate well with coworkers and easily explain processes to students and apprentices.
