Candidates must have a vocational certificate and a valid mechanics card issued by a recognized certifying authority. A few years of relevant experience as a mechanic as well as a Class1 drivers licence are also required. Sound knowledge of: spoken French and English, and written French; the techniques, practices and tools of the trade; how motorized equipment is constructed and how it functions; the proper functioning of dashboard instruments and various accessory mechanisms; all types of metals and alloys, and their properties; how to operate the motor and power equipment being used, and what its capacity and limitations are. Ability to: diagnose the causes of malfunction; use the right tools for the job; read diagrams; consult parts catalogues, understand maintenance manuals and, when needed, write up requests for supplies or equipment; operate the motor and power equipment being used.
