Junior Estimator (Co-Op)- Summer 2025This is an excellent introductory opportunity for Post-Secondary school students in a Co-Op program. Being part of the SKYGRiD Co-Op experience is all about hands- on learning, mentoring by professionals and working as an active member of a project team. The Junior Estimator Co-op will assist the Estimating Team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves learning from senior estimators, participating in site visits, and developing strong relationships with trades, subcontractors, and suppliers. Key Responsibilities:Prepare estimates of probable costs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracts based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications. Complete full quantity take-offs for all aspects of each new project as per contract specifications.Advise on tendering procedures, examine, and analyze tenders and recommend tender awards.Conduct financial assessments of contract variations.Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.Ensure accurate and high-quality record keeping.Cost value procurement of materials, equipment and labour and current market value assessment.Maintain good relationships and create new ones with trades, subcontractors, and suppliers.Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.Required Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience: Must be currently enrolled in a Canadian Post- Secondary institution with a focus in Construction Management, or relevant. Strong and effective communication, writing, and computer skills are essentialAbility to work with a sense of urgency.Good organizational skills and attention to detail.Strong initiative and ability to work independently.Proficiency in MS Office programs and Bluebeam.Familiarity with AutoCAD architecture and Revit is beneficial but not required.Ability to understand engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and construction practices and apply this knowledge efficiently in day-to-day tasks.Ability to perform in a fast-paced construction environment.
