We strive to provide an inclusive culture by fostering an environment of mutual respect, fairness, and by providing opportunities to contribute and grow.Position DescriptionReporting to the Manager, Estimating, the Estimating Lead will oversee the estimating teams day-to-day activities and be responsible for quality control reviews of estimated costs associated with mass timber construction projects. They will ensure that clients receive competitive, transparent pricing while upholding our commitment to sustainability and quality. Additionally, the Lead Estimator will support training on new or revised processes and templates, manage SAP/Epicor/IC PO document handling, and oversee sold order documentation control. The Estimating Lead manages workload distribution, leading team meetings, and providing vacation coverage for the Manager of Estimating. This position will be based out of our Vancouver office.ResponsibilitiesOversee and conduct QC reviews of all bid projects with the estimating team, ensuring alignment between estimated costs and the project's scope and objectives.Manage and distribute workload assignments to ensure balanced team productivity.Set up and lead Bid Review meetings, engaging Senior Leadership, Region Managers, Project Managers, and Construction Services team members.Serve as the primary point of contact for questions related to estimating processes and standards, acting as a resource to ensure consistent team practices.Provide training, mentorship, and developmental support to Estimating team members.Actively support and participate in streamlining estimating processes to improve efficiency.Partner with Region Managers and Engineering to address cost-related inquiries, offering budgeting and cost control insights.Collaborate with Region Managers, clients, architects, and engineers to review project plans, specifications, and materials requirements.Guide estimating team members on project requirements, including structural and architectural details, to determine mass timber material needs.Review and approve cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment, and other project expenses, ensuring alignment with budget standards.Evaluate labour rates, material costs, subcontractor bids, and timelines to provide accurate and competitive estimates.Identify and recommend value engineering opportunities to maintain project quality and sustainability objectives.Work with team members to prepare comprehensive bid proposals for clients, with detailed breakdowns and explanations of cost components.Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotes for specialised mass timber components or services.Stay informed on industry trends, pricing, and regulations impacting mass timber construction.Present essential project data in a clear, organised format, facilitating team understanding and workflow.Collaborate with the Project Management team to address change orders and ensure that updates are communicated clearly to the sales and coordination teams.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications and ExperienceMinimum of 4 years proven experience as an estimator, preferably in the construction or mass timber industry.Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).In-depth knowledge of mass timber materials, construction methods, and related technologies.Demonstrated ability to lead, manage workload distribution, and maintain team productivity.Proficiency in construction estimating software and tools.Strong mathematical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to support and mentor team members.Commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility is essential.Salary & BenefitsThe salary for this position is $80,000 - $105,000 CAD. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.Our group benefits package, which has no waiting period, includes extended health and dental benefits, in addition to a Health Care Spending Account and a fitness allowance.RRSP - We provide a competitive RRSP contribution plan, with base contributions made by Mercer which can be supplemented with personal contributions matched by the company up to a certain %.The competition will remain open until we find the right candidate to join our team.
