(Al-Pac) is seeking a Senior Project Manager to work out of our corporate office in St. Albert, AB or from the millsite in Athabasca, AB. The successful candidate is responsible for developing and overseeing technical work plans, preparing, and presenting updates regularly to relevant management channels, and is responsible for the timely, cost-effective delivery of complex and technical projects undertaken at Al-Pac.Who Are We?Al-Pac is the largest single-line kraft pulp producer in North America. We are continuously exploring new and innovative ideas, while delivering premium products with a commitment to strong environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility a commitment that is demonstrated by our long-standing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification*.Role Responsibilities Manage Capital Projects:Manage strategic and highly technical and/or complex projects for the organization.Follow the Project Delivery Model (PDM) framework and governance for the delivery of projects highly technical in nature.Lead the technical design discussions regarding complex equipment configuration in the plant.Act as a technical resource when explaining project details to the review board.Develop, track, and report project budget/forecast/actuals/schedules.Assist in the coordination of cross discipline input in to engineering deliverables.Build, develop, and coordinate a project team to ensure project deliverables of scope, schedule, and budget are executed effectively.Lead all project related meetings with external and internal stakeholders.Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.Track, reconcile and identify any project budget deviations or problems related to assigned projects.Conduct post-mortem benefits analysis upon project completion to verify targets have been met.Provide leadership and expertise on project management principles and practices.Lead and coordinate the work of other groups, as required, to create estimates (planning and design execution), create AFEs and project justifications. Continuous Improvement:Review the PDM framework and suggest additions and improvements to the process to increase efficiency and accuracy of the deliverables.Record and disseminated lessons learned from projects with the Project Management team.Work with Finance to develop and refine SAP reporting to streamline cost tracking and reporting.Work with IT to develop SAP as an enterprise project management tool.Responsible for the control system security and operational safety, including control of system user access. Liaison with all Stakeholder: Manage the tracking of change requests to be used for variance explanation at project close.Provide general and project-specific advice and recommendations to PMO/CSC (i.e., resource constraints, milestones met and/or missed, successes, and lessons learned).Coordinate between engineering and procurement on scope of supply, technical documents and bid clarifications.Coordinate between engineering and the estimating team for material take-offs, inclusions and exclusions, and other technical aspects.Communicating and escalating project risks and issues appropriately. Other:Provide guidance and coaching to stakeholders responsible for various stages of the project management process.Assist the Corporate Development team, where necessary, in fleshing out potential strategic projects.Promoting project management within the Company.Role RequirementsA Post Secondary Engineering Degree preferably in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical. Registration as a P. Eng. with APEGA.5+ years progressively related work experience in managing projects.Considered an asset: Formal project management training (PRINCE 2, PMP). Experience in developing tracking solutions and leveraging software platforms for maximum deliverability.
