Join our team as a Transportation & Freight Manager, where youll bring your hands-on experience managing logistics operations in North America and your focus on continuous improvement to identify opportunities for transportation improvements.You will also leverage your technical expertise to propose, develop and support solutions aligned with The Little Potato Companys values and goals, emphasizing best practices ins supply chain to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and optimize the efficiency and integrity throughout the supply chain logistics network.Reporting to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain and based in our Nisku, AB facility, this role offers the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement.The standard workweek is Monday to Friday with a requirement of being on-call. Key Responsibilities for this position include (but not limited to):Manage the daily activities of the logistics operations and the team responsible for the movement of inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and seamless delivery processes.Provide guidance, support, and training to all stakeholders to ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service within a fast-paced environment.Negotiate and manage contracts and rates with carriers to ensure competitive pricing, service reliability, and efficient delivery.Analyze and manage freight costs, continuously monitoring spending and implementing cost-saving strategies to meet budgetary targets.Manage freight logistics, including vendor selection, route optimization, and compliance with international shipping regulations and customs requirements.Negotiate and manage contracts and rates with carriers to ensure competitive pricing, service reliability, and efficient delivery.Streamline logistic activities, identifying continuous improvement opportunities of processes or procedures, implementing cost saving initiatives including annual carrier RFPs, customer logistics schedules and transportation management systems.Work with private, third party, domestic & international carriers and freight forwarders to streamline the flow of goods across international borders and through customs. Assist with budgeting and collaborate with management to set performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the logistics team, analyzing data to drive improvements.Generate and present detailed logistics reports, analyzing KPIs, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and recommending operational improvements.Ensure administrative policies and procedures are in compliance with all government regulations.Troubleshoot or direct investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints or challenges. Ensure the highest level of customer service levels by optimizing customer logistics schedules. Remain current with latest logistic technology systems, procedures and regulatory changes. Desired Qualifications:Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in transportation and freight management within a medium sized company with a strong focus on inbound and outbound logistics, freight cost control and international shipping. 5 years of leading and mentoring a team and managing a department. Certified Logistics Professional designation (CITT-CCLP or P.Log) would be considered an asset.Advanced MS Excel skills for data analysist, cost tracking and report creation.Previous experience with freight forwarding and customs brokerages would be considered a strong asset.Key Competencies:Highly developed organizational and customer service skills with a strong commitment to providing outstanding internal and external customer service.Highly effective communicator with a high commitment to supporting and developing their team. Strong work ethic with a positive team attitude.Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.Well-organized with strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.Work Conditions: This role is an office-based role and must manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines therefore there is a requirement to be on call 24 hours per day.Occasional travel may be required to attend training and/or meetings.Language Skills: This role must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with employees, management, and external vendors. Proficiency in English is required.
