The primary focus of this role is to consolidate complex pieces of information into concise and easy to understand presentations and documents to support the decision making of senior management and the board of directors. The work of the Senior Associate is primarily project-based, and they will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. The work of the Senior Associate falls into the following categories: Mergers and Acquisitions, Strategic Projects, and Other Strategic Planning / Support. This is a hybrid role based in our head office in Vancouver, BC.Responsibilities: Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) (10% to 20%)Provide analysis to support acquisitions, mergers, divestments and partnerships.Lead aspects of company due diligence, including collaborating with cross-functional teams to assess legal, financial and operational aspects of potential transactions.Present findings including valuations, potential synergies, alignment with strategy, viability and risks associated with various M&A opportunities.Assist with integration efforts of newly acquired entities.Strategic Projects (40% to 50%)Gather data and develop complex financial models to evaluate feasibility and potential returns of strategic projects and initiatives.Complete cost benefit analysis on capital project investment opportunities.Identify appropriate metrics / criteria to evaluate projects and support in project management throughout the implementation and execution.Explore potential partnership / funding opportunities for projects, including decarbonization / ESG projects.Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally (including government representatives).Synthesize findings through business cases, reports, and presentations and communicate impactful recommendations to all levels of the organization (including senior management / Board).Other Strategic Planning / Support (30% to 40%)Support strategy setting and execution, including ad hoc analysis supporting the Vice President on various strategic initiatives. Assist in investor presentation updates and supporting senior management in their responses to investor queries.Lead Associates and Co-ops on projects and contribute to their development.Prepare and lead comparable company analysis and market research.Qualifications and Experience:A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, or similar, is required. An MBA is considered an asset. CFA, CA, or other similar designation is considered an asset.Financial modelling skills required, specifically experience in valuation modelling, forecasting, and cost benefit analysis.A self-starter with a high level of autonomy and resourcefulness to be able to overcome roadblocks.High level of business acumen with ability to approach problems from a strategic lens and determine the impacts of decisions across all areas of the business.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong ability to learn and adapt, including the ability to quickly pivot and reassess priorities.Ability to work on / manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines, without sacrificing attention to detail.Willingness to learn.Ability to work effectively independently and with a team.Benefits: The salary for this position is $100,000 – $115,000 annually.
