We seek an experienced individual with a minimum of 5 years of claims handling experience in the specialty commercial insurance sector to join our dynamic and growing team in Canada. Responsibilities Reporting to the Head of Claims, the successful candidate will have strong analytical and problem solving abilities, in addition to strong negotiation and communication skills. The successful individual will be responsible for: Examining intermediate to complex property & casualty claims including coverage interpretation, loss evaluation, setting and adjusting reserves in accordance with company guidelines, effecting payments accurately and efficiently; Retaining and instructing vendors as appropriate (independent adjusters, lawyers, experts); Maintaining concise file documentation and meet internal reporting requirements; Identifying subrogation, contribution and other recovery issues and ensuring that these are pursued where appropriate; Overseeing TPA/MGA referrals on coverage and claims exceeding delegated authority, providing control and direction to ensure resolution of claims in a timely manner; Attending settlement conferences, mediation and pre-trials as required either virtually or in-person; Liaising, collaborating and maintaining good relationships with the underwriting team, submitting risk information where appropriate. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years claims related experience in property and casualty lines; LLB or Bachelors degree an asset; CIP designation or in latter stage of completion; Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills Enhanced knowledge of claims investigation, policy wordings/coverage, insurance contracts, legal statutes and procedures Positive solution-oriented attitude Team-oriented and willing to participate in team discussions Excellent time management skills Excellent oral and written English communication skills Working knowledge of French and/or German considered an asset Willing to encourage an inspired team environment with an open communication culture.
