IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim VP Corporate Services & CFO Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Duration: 12 - 18 Months Location: GTA West, ON On-Site Our client a fast growing Canadian energy corporation is looking for a seasoned leader to coach and engage a diverse team through a period of transition. This assignment includes the build out of new functions around Investment Planning and Business Optimization, Artificial Intelligence, Automation and Strategic Data Analysis for the organization. This involves providing timely strategic decision support, proactive analysis of business opportunities and risks, and provision of financial guidance and developing simple and easy to use corporate services to enable the company to achieve its objectives. Key Accountabilities: Financial Reporting and Internal Controls Report on financial performance results for each facility within the portfolio, including monthly cost reporting and variance analysis against budgets and forecasts. Maintain an accurate set of financial records for each facility, including general ledger maintenance, monitoring of balance sheet and income statement accounts, and maintenance of key reconciliations to subledgers. Design and implement internal controls over financial reporting in all key business processes, commensurate with the risk associated with business processes. Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with applicable financial reporting frameworks.Knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) required. Liaise with internal and external auditors on audit requests, co-ordinating and leading the annual audit of Organizations financial statements. Maintain accountability of the creation, review and reporting to the board of all key risks and corresponding mitigation plans. Budgeting, Forecasting and Business Support Co-ordinate the annual budgeting process, working with facility managers and other stakeholders to prepare the companys business plan. Use knowledge of developments in the business during the year to prepare updated forecasts of expected business performance throughout the year. Provide financial analysis in support of business cases prepared by the facility managers. Implement processes to monitor progress on key projects that are executed at each facility. Perform a financial review of significant contracts, both to inform decision making on the financial implications prior to entering into contracts and to establish the appropriate accounting treatment for such contracts. Treasury and Cash Management Form appropriate cash budgets to maintain sufficient liquidity and manage the risks related to Organizations short-term financial obligations. Assist in the processing of transactions and management of vendors. Manage banking services and activities, including dealing with main bank contacts on current or emerging issues. Establish appropriate cash management controls, including appropriate segregation of duties between employees within the Finance function. Establish processes and procedures for monitoring market and credit risk which Organization is exposed to, including assessment of counterparty creditworthiness and probability of default. Monitor and report on compliance with market and credit risk benchmarks to senior management. Investment Planning Develop protocols around financial analysis to support decisions around growth, investments, financing and modelling to support expansion and taking on new lines of business. Liaise with the ELT to support approval for growth related business cases and financing strategies. Building Enterprise Analytics Function. Define Organizations powers needs for expertise in the areas of Business Optimization, Automation, AI and where technology can assist. Corporate Services (IT, SCM, LR, and HR). Provide oversight and guidance of these corporate services with the mindset to improve the employee experience through automation, process improvement and timely provisioning of corporate services. Work with each corporate lead to establish and implement a 2 to 3 year strategic plan to evolve the function and provide relevant services that will support Organizations operational and growth plans. Accountable for the functional governance associated with the Corporate Services and evolve these corporate policies to meet Organizations changing needs. Establish opportunities for outsourcing as appropriate and the development of relevant metrics to track the progress of corporate services. Oversee audits, benchmarking and strategic planning for these functions and support the day to day activities through on going connections, mentorship and coaching. Provide oversight and direction into Organizations long term procurement strategy to dovetail with the companys growth plan to ensure operational and project success. Where required, intervene to support contract negotiations both for procurement and labour relations Partner with senior executives and other stakeholders to review and assess corporate services and its long term strategy to support the business and growth. Make adjustments to services and offerings as required per this long term strategy. People Management Oversee the work of junior team members, including assignment of tasks, roles and responsibilities, and assuming responsibility for key outputs from team. Provide detailed coaching and constructive feedback to team on a regular basis. Convey the Organization strategy to team members, translating into individual goals and objectives consistent with the Organization mission statement. Assess and provide feedback on staff performance to senior management in line with Organizations performance assessment framework. Requirements: CPA, CA or equivalent designation. Knowledge of US GAAP an asset. Experience with functional oversight of IT, Procurement and HR is considered an asset. Experience of Microsoft Dynamics an asset. Helped organizations through organic growth. Deep exposure to managing complex, multi year capital projects. Experience in energy, utilities or manufacturing organizations an asset.
