Job Overview: The Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation of the PAO's communication strategies, maintaining the organization's digital presence, and ensuring that all communication is precise, effective, and strategically aligned with PAOs goals. This role includes working closely with an external strategic communications firm to implement the annual strategic communications plan. Responsibilities: Social Media Management: Create strategic, engaging content across the PAOs social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), under the guidance of senior staff and in collaboration with our external communications firm. Monitor engagement and adjust content as needed to align with PAOs communications goals. Website Updates : Maintain the PAO website, which is hosted through WordPress, ensuring that content is current and accurate, including event information, member resources, latest news, and updates as needed. Implementation Support : Actively support the implementation of communication strategies as determined by the external strategic communications firm, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic objectives. Media Relations Support: Act as a liaison between the media and the external strategic communications firm, supporting media inquiries and developing relationships with media personnel to increase the organization's media profile. Content Development Support: Conduct background work, research, and interviews for articles for PAOs biannual magazine 'The Dispatch.' Manage editorial schedules and coordinate with external contractor who is responsible for the final content. Support the creation of internal and external communications in various formats, such as electronic, web-based, and print. Public Relations Campaigns : Support public relations campaigns to improve public perception of the profession, including initiatives like the Police Hero of the Year Awards and provincial election advocacy. As the program administrator for the Police Services Hero of the Year Award program, ensure its successful execution by managing submissions and coordinating materials and communications. Develop content, such as social media posts and interesting stories, based on the submissions. Event and Presentation Support: Develop speaking notes and presentations for the PAO President and assist with communications-related updates at PAO conferences and events. Assist the events staff by drafting attendee communication copy, preparing presentation decks, and other related materials. Stakeholder Communications: Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders under the guidance of the Director. Prepare briefing materials and support the Director in stakeholder engagements. Email Marketing: Manage and execute email marketing campaigns using Mailchimp to engage members and promote PAO initiatives. Draft and distribute the association's weekly e-newsletter, curating and distributing pertinent information to members and stakeholders. Strategic Communications Coordination: Collaborate with an external strategic communications firm to implement the annual strategic communications plan, ensuring alignment with PAO's goals and objectives. Required Skills and Experience: Exceptional Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail and precision. Digital Proficiency: Experience managing websites and strong familiarity with social media platforms. Technical skills in digital content management systems (WordPress) and basic graphic design are preferred. Strong Communication Skills: Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills are essential. Professional Copywriting Skills: Proven experience in professional copywriting, ensuring all communications are engaging and aligned with the organization's voice and objectives. Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail to ensure all communications are accurate, clear, and error-free. Educational Background: Degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Compensation Package: Salary Range : $60,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience.
