NQLC is run by a First Nations board of directors, representing several native title groups.NQLC services include advising on and conducting native title claims, from initial research to determination, support for registered native title claimants and prescribed body corporates (PBCs) seeking assistance with future act matters, advice and assistance on cultural heritage management, negotiation and drafting of Indigenous land use agreements, and support for PBCs to strengthen and consolidate administrative and management practices.About the Roles:NQLC is currently seeking full time legal professionals at Senior Legal Officer, Legal Officer, and Paralegal levels to join our Claims Team. Our preferred location is Townsville, although Cairns applications will be considered.Reporting to the Principal Legal Officer, the daily work of the Claims Team includes:Litigation, mediation and negotiation related to applications filed in the Federal Court under the Native Title Act 1993.Court appearances, instructing counsel, briefing witnesses, providing advice on native title claims, and extinguishment of native title and related compensation claims.Facilitating meetings relevant to prospective or ongoing native title claims.Conducting research and providing advice on prospects of native title claims.Negotiating, drafting, reviewing, and advising on complex agreements.Attending on country to interview lay witnesses, take evidence, take instructions, and advise clients.See attached position descriptions for the details of each role.About You:You will work as part of a cohesive and integrated legal team, committed to achieving real outcomes for First Nations people.
